The Lowrance iFinder Go provides compact, waterproof GPS navigation.
The navigator is so reliable that its 16 parallel channel GPS and WAAS receiver is accurate to within several meters, making it a great fit for scavenger hunts as well as hikes. Each trip is completely customizable, with the ability to create new routes, waypoints, trails, and more. You can also easily recalculate your trip route should you get distracted and lose your way, and thanks to the 32 MB of built-in memory, you can save and retrace up to 100 of your favorite plot trails, with up to 10,000 points in each path.

The device holds more than just previous routes, however. It also comes preloaded with a background map of the continental U.S. and Hawaii, with such features as coastal nav aids, wrecks, and obstructions. In addition, the device supports up to 1,000 waypoints, 1,000 event markers, and 100 routes. Users with a zest for detail will appreciate the 40 map zoom ranges (from 0.02 to 4,000 miles) and the 42 graphic icons used to mark special spots.

To top it off, the iFinder Go's bright yellow housing is waterproof, so you can use it in the rain or safely store it in your pack when rafting. Additional features include a 2-inch white LED backlit screen with 200 x 140 resolution, internal backup memory for storing your GPS data and settings, and a wrist-strap accessory. The pocket-sized unit measures 2.12 by 5.15 by 1.24 inches (W by H by D) and runs for up to 48 hours on two AA batteries (not included). It also includes a one-year warranty.

1 out of 5 stars Impressive display with nothing behind it.   August 25, 2005

The display is very impressive for monochrome LCD. This is the only nice thing I have to say about this GPS. The map shows only state and federal roads. No smaller roads show up.

The accuracy is not as advertised. I punched in a home point, walked several hunred feet and walked back. When I returned to the original spot, it read that I was 50 to 100 feet away (I tried it several times).

My first time using it in the field, it crashed on me. I tried everything. Even the power button did not work. I had to remove the batteries for a few minutes in order to get it to come back to life.

Very disappointed. I have contacted Lowrance by email. We will see how their customer support department is.

3 out of 5 stars Poor Value   November 1, 2005

[1 star - for some reason I cannot edit this feature]
I originally rated this 3 stars because of its price and basic qualities. I have to say that I regret that decision. I have used 5 of these units since September for my work with teenagers. The most recent time was the last straw. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for. I have had to resort to ten kids using my personal garmin etrex too many times.
-Cold start time is horrible, if it even does it at all.
-Lowrance did not see fit to include a manual on using advanced mode(You must print all 92 pages yourself online).
-I have set waypoints (which is very easy to do on this) and followed them back to find it wished me to go in the complete opposite direction when I was already 1000 feet away.
-The design is NOT intuitive and easy to follow, each page has its own menu with not much corssover for commands.
-The display is fairly clear, but small. Backlighting is real nice though.

Spend the extra money, buy the basic eTrex.

I also bought this iFINDER GO2 piece of crap. No wheres near as accurate as my Garmin. The Garmin doesn't even use WAAS technology, and it beats the crap out of this lowrance crap.
Garmin the way to go.
Where the hells lowrance based out of anyway....some 5th world country??

4 out of 5 stars Very nice first handheld GPS   November 17, 2005

I love this GPS. It's light and the buttons are clearly defined. The accuracy is great, although it's hard to get acquisition while moving, I suppose that's the same with all GPSrs. I've gone Geocaching already with it and it finds everything. I've once even got the accuracy within 3 feet, which was really nice. The only one con I can think of is that it is really slippery. I've almost dropped it twice, but was saved by the included wrist strap. Haven't gotten to test the water resistability, but I don't think I want to "test" it.

5 out of 5 stars Don't know what they are talking about?   May 2, 2006

I have to tell you. I read the other reviews and am not really sure what they expected for the price. You get so moch more compared to comperably priced units form other brands. I primarily use mine to geocache and will admit the inability to download coordinates from the computer would be nice but I didn't want to spend the money to get a unit that did that. As far as accuraccy I feel that this is very good, I have never had a problem finding my caches and have never had a problem getting a lock within a reasonable amount of time. Backlight is great, base map is adequate, navigation page is good. Basically you can get much, much better but not for this price. Perfect for the weekend geocacher, hiker, biker.
