Slim, sleek, more than a mini but less than a... January 14, 2006 Artisan7 (Brooklyn, New York USA) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
... large desktop mouse or those over-sized game mice that look like they were built on steroids. I bought this mouse for my new notebook. The mouse is slimmer than the pictures can show and with the rubber sides, it does have a very comfortable natural feel. The size fits my hand comfortably as well - I don't have to adjust to those all too small mini notebook mice. I like the 4-way navigation wheel (up, down, right, left) as well as the built-in zoom feature. The forward and back page buttons are on the top which suits me just fine - I always hated having the buttons on the sides where I would often accidentally press them while browsing. Installation could not be easier. Just insert the batteries into the mouse, plug the mini-wireless receiver into a USB port and you are in business. I like the fact that the kit also included a USB extendor although I don't think I will need it as the signal seems strong - mouse performance was reliable and accurate (1100 dpi). It responded as well or better than a corded mouse but without the dangling wire. For full mouse function of the extra buttons, install the software (check the Logitech website for the latest version). I am also very happy that the software is mouse-pad aware so it did not create any conflicts - both the LX7 and mouse-pad work fine together. Definitely would recommend the LX7 mouse without hesitation. Update 2/12/06 - f.y.i.: the small battery indicator on the top is intended to light up only when your battery is about ready to run out of juice, otherwise you barely know it is there.
Nice, but the wakeup time bugs me May 9, 2006 Wild Bill (Texas) 13 out of 16 found this review helpful
I was very pleased with this mouse at first. For the price, it seems like an amazing deal. I like the elegant and comfortable design, the useful number of customizable buttons, and the invisible optics (no more red lights shining out from under my mouse). As I would expect from Logitech, the motion of the mouse is smooth and precise. The left/right part of the four-way scrolling doesn't seem to work nicely or in very many applications, but I don't really care too much about it. However, one thing really gets me: the time it takes the mouse to wake up. After several seconds of inactivity, the mouse goes to sleep in order to conserve battery power, then turns back on when it's moved. The time it takes to wake up, which is probably about 1/10 to 1/5 of a second, so has come to bother me a lot. That may not seem like much, but I use my mouse off and on, and it's pretty irritating when my cursor doesn't move right when I want it to. If it weren't for that issue, I'd be extremely satisfied with this mouse. Sadly, I'm afraid I'll be returning mine in hopes of finding one that will wake up faster. If you don't think the wakeup time will bother you, I'd say you have little to lose with this mouse.
I prefer the Intellimouse, but the LX7 makes a great notebook mouse August 21, 2006 Nicholas Sterling (Austin, TX USA) 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
I use a MS Intellimouse on my desktop. I bought a second one to use with my laptop, but the transmitter that you plug into the USB port is a big thing, almost the size of the mouse, and has a long cord. I found that so unwieldy that I ended up buying a notebook mouse. But I didn't like its small size or the lack of extra buttons. Then I bought the LX7 as a replacement for the notebook mouse, and am pretty happy with it. There is just a small USB dongle, and the mouse itself is about 2/3 the size of the Intellimouse -- exactly what I want when travelling. Now I can have a good mouse experience when I'm on the road without having to deal with the bulk and the cable of the Intellimouse. Here are some other notes about how the LX7 compares to the Intellimouse: - I miss the Intellimouse's accelerated scrolling. That is, I have the Intellimouse set up so that if I flick the scroll wheel quickly, it scrolls very far very fast. Alas, there is no such setting on the LX7. I find the LX7's "universal scroll" reasonable, so I'm using that - click a button to enable universal scroll and simply move the mouse itself to scroll. Not as convenient as the Intellimouse, and you use up one of your buttons for it, but its OK. - I also prefer the fact that the Intellimouse's scroll wheel is clickless. - The Intellimouse puts the two extra buttons under the thumb, and I prefer that, although clearly the LX7's button placement (and lack of tilt) make the mouse usable with either hand. - The Intellimouse can be programmed so that the buttons do different things in different programs. For example, the thumb buttons may be Back and Forward in your browser but Delete and Reply in your mailer. The LX7 software does not attempt this. Note, however, that the Microsoft software doesn't seem to make the distinction reliably, such that I end up having to just use the global settings for everything. It would be a big advantage to Microsoft if it worked well (and maybe it does for others). - The Intellimouse tracks well on some surfaces that the LX7 can't handle (e.g. a glossy magazine). Not a big deal, but I have to pay a little more attention to what I put under the LX7. - One thing I hate about the Intellimouse is that the batteries are hard to extract when it comes time to change them. With the LX7 you simply pull on a little strip of mylar and the batteries pop out. In short, I prefer the Intellimouse when it is staying put, and the LX7 when I need to haul it around.
Excellent mouse August 2, 2006 Rick 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've had this mouse for about 1 month. My previous two mice: a Logitech Cordless Click!, and a Microsoft cordless mouse that came paired with a wireless keyboard. I personally prefer Logitech's mice to Microsoft's. As another reviewer mentioned, the LX7 *is* a little small, but that doesn't bother me very much. I have very average-sized hands: 8 1/2" inches from wrist crease to fingertip, palm about 4 1/4" wide, and 10" from thumb to little finger when stretched wide. Unlike the actual hardware, I feel Microsoft's Intellipoint software is better than the Logitech's Mouseware. Fortunately, Intellipoint works with this mouse, too. I like that this mouse has much lower power consumption than my previous Logitech mouse: they claim a battery life of up to 8 months. That is in line with the Microsoft mouse I have. With that one, I don't use rechargeables, because they last so long. I haven't used this LX7 too long, but anything over 3 months on rechargables will make me pretty happy. The Cordless Click! used up the charge in 2 NiMH batteries in about 3 weeks. Another nice feature of this mouse is that it has an On/Off button on the bottom of the mouse, to save even more on batteries. I click on the middle mouse wheel a lot, and I don't like that you have to apply quite a bit more pressure to get it to get it to click, unlike the Click! mouse. For scrolling, the wheel has those little "stop points", like a ratchet, which I prefer, as opposed to a completely smooth roll (like my Microsoft cordless). It is still smooth, and requires little pressure. The dark blue model looks good. It is sleek and attractive. It is symmetrical, which is nice, since I use it on the left. On top, it includes a low battery LED, and has small forward and back buttons for moving through web pages. Overall this is an excellent mouse. To be perfect, it would need four more things: - Be a little larger. - Require slightly less pressure to click on the middle wheel. - Have left and right thumb buttons on the side. - Include a built-in NiMH battery and a charger base. All that being said, this still ranks up there as one of the best overall mice I've owned.
Bang for its buck March 11, 2007 N. Passero (Verona, NJ) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
this is one of the best in its class for the low price. quick, and responsive, and very convenient for a frequent web browser. the back and forward buttons on it work like a charm and are perfect for the web.
