Adds a (thin) layer of protection August 3, 2007 Shelley Shay (Denton, TX **(God Bless the USA!!)**) 20 out of 23 found this review helpful
The glass surface of the iPhone is much sturdier and scratch resistant than the plastic surface of its iPod cousins. iPods typically scratch when you look at them funny. iPhones get scuffed on the metal rim, but so far, nothing but praise is heard for the touch-screen surface on the iPhone's glass. Still, I wasn't willing to tempt fate and bought this Crystal Screen Protector for my phone. As a photographer, I might have a $20 filter I don't really need affixed to my lens - because if I drop the camera, I break a $20 filter and not my $800 lens! The logic was the same when I decided to get this film protector. It's very thin and when the iPhone is on, you can see crystal clear - everything is as beautiful as w/o it on there... but the plastic surface does get scratches on it, fingerprints and scuffs. My logic is that if (God forbid!) I drop the iPhone, the plastic film might crack or split, absorbing some of the impact instead of it transferring directly to the glass. I can always replace the film, but if I break my iPhone, there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth! The plastic film looks good, but doesn't feel as sexy cool as the glass itself - still, I'm happy to have at the very least a placebo effect of protection. The less than perfect rating is for the less than perfect alignment on the die-cut holes on the film - I had to fiddle with this thing for 15 minutes to get it on the iPhone just right. In all fairness, I am anal-retentive when it comes to electronics - I want everything to look perfect and I even use a ruler when putting in my window sticker for my car's registration, scraping the previous one off w/ a razor blade and cleaning it meticulously before affixing the new one... but on a phone that costs $600, you don't want a $13 item making your iPhone look like a Kia or a silly plastic toy, either. A bit of advice in application: a lot of people don't realize that the iPhone box has a little envelope buried in there w/ a cleaning cloth. Use that cloth to clean the wazoo out of the phone's surface before affixing this film, and only hold the film by the edges. If you inadvertently get finger grease, dog hair, lint, etc. on the sticky surface then affix it to the iPhone, the edge is more likely to peel up after time.
Don't waste your money on this boxwave screen protector!!! October 31, 2007 H. Henry (Los Angeles, CA) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
if you compare this to the crystal clear protector you got from apple store there are big difference! The one you got from apple store is so much more high quality, the edges are smoothly cut and it is much easier to put it on. The problem with this screen protector is the edges are very rough and it does not stick especially the one close to the home button in the iphone. If you want to get a screen protector for your iphone go to apple store and get it. It only cost $15 and you get 2 screen protectors. This is the worse screen protector I had ever got for all my devices.
needs skilled installer September 16, 2007 martums (New Jersey) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
the Apple iPhone ClearTouch Crystal Screen Protector is an over-priced dust-magnet. It's extremely difficult to apply centered on the screen, and lifting it up and re-applying risks getting dust particles beneath the screen. While it's true that it doesn't leave any adhesive residue, the package ought to include multiple protectors. Anything more than a buck a sheet is a rip off. This product is rubbish.
Great product when applied correctly October 10, 2007 Joshua G. Lartz (PA, US) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Bought one when I first bought my iphone a few months ago. Worked wonderfully until I took it off to wash it (which the packaging says it's capable of.) Somehow it picked up a few specs of dirt after I reapplied it, rendering it useless. So I had to get a replacement. It looks and feels magnificent when applied, just be very careful when applying it. It becomes very hard to remove the dirt particles on the adhesive without smearing the clearness of the screen. This is a problem with any screen protector really, so I'd definitely recommend this screen protector.
Hard to install January 12, 2008 J. Dvorak 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First of all the price is a scam, it may cost 1$ but after shipping and handling it comes close to $10 and it was so small it could have been shipped in an envelope with a stamp. it comes with one protector that has a film on each side that must be removed to install, you have to get the placement exactly perfect and I mean perfect or the edges will bubble constantly. I finally took a razor blade and cut off the extra that was touching the side of the screen. It would have been cheaper and faster to just go to a store to buy one.
