Great Case for Casual or Business Traveler September 25, 2005 Professor N.B. (San Francisco, CA) 81 out of 82 found this review helpful
When I was shopping for a notebook case that was not too bulky for everyday use. I only needed to bring my notebook and power cord, and an occasional file or two. This Samsonite L35 laptop carrying case is exactly what I need for both everyday and travel use. I have it for each of my laptops. Not only does it carry all the necessary notebook requirements (power cable, ethernet cable, files, etc.), but everything else such as my wallet, phone, and sometimes a slim external hard drive. The added padding protected my laptop from its demise after a few accidental mishaps. Thanks, Samsonite!!! For my personal laptop, I have a Sony VAIO with a 13.3" screen, and it carries all of the necessities, which include a wireless optical mouse. For my work laptop, I have an HP (Mobile Centrino) with a 15" screen, and it fits it perfectly! I carry more things, which include a wireless optic mouse, a wireless USB network adapter (to supplement/increase the gain of the internal wireless card on my notebook), and a CD wallet case. The other great thing about this case is the "flap" that can fit onto my carry-on luggage pull handle. If one didn't know what this was for, it can be easily mistaken for an external compartment with a "design flaw" of having the bottom of the pocket open. I am a professor at a medical university, and I travel at least once a month to give lectures in Universities and Scientific Conferences, so this is a definitely a big design advantage for travelers. Conclusion: It is small enough to be conveniently used for everything I need it for, yet big enough to carry everything that I need. Because the Samsonite L35 is doing its job as a notebook carrying case, I gave it 5 stars. I use the L35 when I just need to carry the notebook and the power cord. I also have the Samsonite XT530, which can hold more things, such as files and cables and peripherals portable drives. The XT530 is what I use when I need to bring more stuff.
Good for light laptops only......... hinges tear off easily April 14, 2005 N. Wong (Bellevue, WA) 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
When I first got this bag, it worked great. After about 3 months of regular use of bringing my laptop to school, I noticed the fake leather over the hinges for the shoulder strap started to tear, and eventually, they both broke off. I basically dropped my laptop the first time this happened and was not in a good mood. I hooked the straps on to the handle hinges which seemed to be a little sturdier, but they just tore off also. The construction of the hinges to the bag are not very good, as they rely upon the fake leather and a little (too small) of a a bolt that just goes into the bag (no washer on the inside to deter the bolt from pulling off the bag). The laptop I have is an older IBM T20 with an AC adapter and an extra battery. I'm guessing this is too heavy for the bag, even though the laptop is relatively light. I would never buy this model again.
Not for Dell E1505 April 11, 2006 Senthil Thiyagarajan 39 out of 47 found this review helpful
I bought this case for my new Dell E1505 laptop. It would have been perfect if its an inch bigger. Its quite a struggle to keep the notebook into the case.
Well built and comfortable, with one flaw. May 17, 2004 briw (Boston, MA) 26 out of 42 found this review helpful
I bought this for my thin and light Averatec, which has a 12.1" screen and weighs just over 4 lbs. This case could certainly fit a larger notebook but suits my laptop admirably. It also leaves plenty of room for the charger and mouse. I put work related stuff in the case, for example professional journals, with plenty of room left over. The material has a nice feel to it, the zippers zip smoothly, and overall the case has a well-crafted, sturdy but light feel.My only complaint is that one of the large outer pockets has a hole built into the bottom, just large enough to let papers or magazines fall out! This built-in gap makes no sense whatsoever. I am thinking about stitching it closed, but then why should I have to do such a thing to a new product from a name brand manufacturer? I can put reading material in the other pockets, but again, that simply begs to question as to the purpose of this cut-out. Were it not for this silly design error, the case would earn 5/5 stars.
Good Quality, But too tight for 15in laptop December 9, 2004 Vinay Kashyap (Appleton, WI USA) 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 15in. Laptop. The laptop did fit in snugly, by with the power cord and USB optical mouse, it bulged in the frontan I had some difficulty closing the zipper. The quality of the material is excellent though. If you have laptop with 15in. or bigger screen, my suggestion is to look for a bigger one.
