Slide copier or door stop? May 22, 2006 John S. Dearing (Corvallis, OR USA) 22 out of 27 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this Opteka HD Slide Copier for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras. I bought it to copy the hundreds of 35mm slides I have. Unfortunately, this copier has a square opening in its slide holder, and the rectangular image of a 35mm slide is partially covered on the ends (or top and bottom). It cannot be used to properly copy a single one of my slides. An email to Opteka seeking a solution to this problem has gone unanswered. If you are looking for a doorstop, you can do better. If you are looking for a slide copier, you can't do worse.
Great Product November 20, 2006 many slides to scan... (Chicago, IL USA) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
i scan many 35mm slides at my work. last year we purchased a semi-highend slide scanner by Nikon for around $1,000. i have found that the pictures of the slides that the Opteka HD Slide Copier takes are far superior in sharpness and color then our slide scanner. the Opteka HD Slide Copier for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras was easy to use with my Canon EOS 30D and 20D, and i had no problems with the cropping out of certain parts of the slides as another review says. i highly recommend this as a cheap, fast way to scan your slides.
Very easy to use, works great. October 3, 2006 Kyle Jacobs (PA) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I had no proublems using this slide copier. It attached onto my lens with the included 58mm ring. All I did was put a slide into the holder, pointed the end at a light, focused, and pressed the shutter. Nothing else to it.
The ability to shot in RAW makes it well worth the price. February 27, 2007 Bradley Mayes (Houston, Texas) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have purchased 2 scanners labeled as "photo scanners" both with slide attachments both over $300.00. The HP produced poor results, the Canon was acceptable but you had little control over the scan. Being able to shot the slide in RAW gives us an incredible amount of flexibility! We now use this device for all of our slide "scans". The initial mage is not better than the Canon but the ease of manipulation and repair is pretty impressive. RAW is just easier to work with than a JPEG.... Highly recommend to those who want to rescue their old slides. On a digital camera with the ability to shot in RAW you will get MUCH better end results than a typical "photo scanner".
Works great August 14, 2007 Victor A. Aguilar Pierri (Guatemala) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have a Canon XTi with the 18-55mm lens, it is perfect. I have to digitalize more than 1000 slides and it is the fastest way to do this I have found without spending a fortune on a slide scanner. Even with bad lighting the pictures come out great, the shutter just takes longer to shut. After taking the pictures one has to do some work fixing light, straightning and cropping, but if you have a good original picture, and you use the RAW format, it can come out as if you took the picture with the digital camera on the scene.
