Empty Ink Solution January 23, 2006 Cheryl A. Levi 55 out of 55 found this review helpful
Unfortunatly the Brother MFC 3240c (and other models also I believe) will not function if any of the inks run out. Also unfortunatly when the 3240c cleans its heads it does so by running ink through the print head, yes it uses ink even if you never print. Again unfortunatly it automatically cleans the print head occasionally. So even if you print you can still run out of ink and the machine shuts down. Fortunatly there is a solution. There is some kind of optical sensor in the 3240c that "sees" how much ink in in the cartridge. You can disable the ability of the sensor to see how much ink is in the cartridge by putting some dark colored tape over the clear part of the LC41 cartridge. The cartridge has one side that you can kind of see through and see the amount of ink inside. That is the side that you need to put the tape over. It is not flat so you will have to mold the tape the shape of the cartridge or it will not fit back into the printer. Once this is done the 3240c thinks you have a full ink cartridge and it will work just fine. This also enables you to use all of the ink in the cartridge. The machine will tell you you are out of ink before it is completly empty. Happy printing!
is color used when printing ONLY black text !?!?! October 8, 2005 eee (WESTCHESTER, NY) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Is it true that using a Brother MFC-5440CN printer to ONLY print black text emails and word processing documents will also consume the three color ink tanks? It seems to be true because that is the case with a friend's printer: she never printed color and all three color tanks have run dry and, unless the 3 color tanks were replaced, the printer refused to continue printing in simple black.
DONT RUN OUT OF INK!! October 24, 2005 Ricky D (Naples, Florida United States) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
This machine will not work if it runs out of ink. Does not matter what color cartridge. In this machine the ink tends to dry out very fast even if not used. When I say nothing works it means just that. No matter what button you press all you get is a beep!. You cannot use the phone/fax, copy, scan or print. Ink cartridges cannot be swapped out either. Brother say's the machine is designed that way to prevent other problems. I am faced with having to replace all the ink cartridges at a cost of about $50-60$ and like I said, they don't last. Very Good Ink August 2, 2006 Kelly A. Tedesco (North Easton, MA United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have the MFC210C printer. It is not top of the line, but for household use, it multitasks very well. This review isn't about the printer, however, but about the ink it uses. I've been very happy with the Brother line of LC41 inks. I use my printer A LOT for a multitude of tasks including photo printing, color, and black printing in pictures and in text. I have used different types of paper, from ultra brite to photo, cardstock to regular old copy paper. The ink doesn't run, dries fast, it is bright and clear. The ink lasts a LONG TIME! I never have problems with clogging or blotching of ink or malfunctioning of the cartridges as I have had with generic inks. I noticed that the black doesn't seem as brite/clear on cheap copy paper as it does on ultra brite or photo paper. But I assume it's the quality of paper that changes the appearance of the ink rather than the ink itself, because it does very well on better paper. Yes, it indicates empty when there is still ink left in the cartridge. It also will not print if one ink runs out (if it's out of yellow, it still will not let you print out a black/white document) But this is a complaint really for the model printer itself, and not the ink quality.
