Product Description Which cable to get? What length? Why bother? Use your existing FireWire 400 cables with this FireWire adapter from Sonnet to connect FireWire 400 devices to a FireWire 800 port, without going through the trouble of purchasing yet another cable. Just plug it in between a FireWire 800 port and a standard FireWire 400 cable's 6-pin male connector (the other end of the FW400 cable plugs into your FireWire device). It can't get any simpler.

Works perfectly December 23, 2005 J. Romkey (West Lebanon, NH USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
After reading the pair of "doesn't work" reviews from the same person, I decided to try it anyway, figuring that Amazon would do an easy refund if it really didn't work (also, I've had good experiences with other Sonnet products in the past). It works just fine for me. I've used it to connect an iPod and an iSight to the Firewire800 port on my Powerbook, both work fine. It seems a decent value and I'm happy with it.
It doesn't work July 26, 2005 Rahul Sinha (Washington DC, USA) 5 out of 21 found this review helpful
Nothing that uses FW400 responds to being plugged into this device, whether is it bus powered or not. Bloody useless
Simple solution to a simple problem October 21, 2006 Richard Rubinstein 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is a great little connector. It allows me to connect Firewire 400 drives to my Firewire 800 port. This gives me access to another port, which makes for faster data transfers, because I can have both channels working at the same time. There's nothing to go wrong. It's a simple connector that just works.
Great little adapter November 18, 2008 HookEmHorns (Austin, TX) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the latest MacBook Pro, which omits the firewire 400 port. This adapter is just what I needed so that I can still plug my firewire 400 devices into a firewire 800 port. Works great and is well made.
800 to 400?? 400 to 800?? August 3, 2007 V. Bodeau (Seattle WA) 1 out of 10 found this review helpful
I need an adaptor to plug a 800 cable into a 400 plug. I got just the opposite. Okay, i have enouh cables, I can switch configuration. Once I got that done, I started getting multiple "you have unplugged this device without warning" errors. Found out that the end of the sonnet cable has a flare to it that prevents two cords from being plugged into together.
