It works with my antediluvian printer September 9, 2007 Olive Branch (La Jolla, CA USA) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
The cable for my HP Laserjet 4Plus printer ends with a 25 pin male DB25 plug, which is not accepted by modern notebooks like my HP Pavilion dv6500. I decided therefore to order a Dekcell Cable (DC), plug my printer cable into the female DB25 end of the DC, and then plug the USB end of the DC into the notebook. The cable comes in a box labeled WanTeng, and the writing on the box advertises "Includes driver for today's most popular operating systems". Unfortunately, the box is dated 2003, and examples of "modern operating systems" pictured on the box are Windows98 and Windows2000. This worried me at first, since the operating systems on my two computers are Windows Vista and Windows XP. However, it turned out that there was no need for a driver. Ignoring the CD enclosed in the box, I simply plugged in the DC, chose a USB port for the printer, and the printer worked (both with Vista and XP). There are cables like this for over $30 which are a little longer, but 3 feet was plenty for me, so I've been quite happy with this cable (and the price under $7).
DB25 - USB adapter October 17, 2007 Crolks (Hilo, Hawaii) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Anyone with an old parallel port printer that still works well doesn't need to go out and get a USB printer for their newer laptops which only come with one serial and several USB ports. This was easy to load with the Vista operating system. All the drivers are on there. Just remember to pick a USB port for the printer output. The LPT1 which is defaulted is not going to work. Load the driver from the CD first and then plug in the adapter attached to the printer. Then load the printer type through the Vista Control Panel. There are no instructions to that effect, but that's been my experience when connecting new hardware, and after my trial and error with the LPT1 port it worked great.
Solution for HP LaserJet 1100 October 18, 2007 Stan Wendzel (San Clemente, Ca USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I had the typical problem of getting a new computer that did not come with parallel printer ports. Fortunately, I just plugged the Dekcell into my existing HP printer cable and plugged the USB end into my new computer's USB ports and all installed automatically. Even the cable to cable connection was terrific as the old HP cable screws allowed for a snug connection with the new Dekcell. For the price you can't beat this. It's a great solution for old HP1100's that still have plenty of life.
"sort of" works December 20, 2007 RG (Hawaii) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Have a recent HPDV6000 notebook computer (running WinXP Pro) with no parallel port and a good old HP multifunction laser 3150 that has only parallel interface. The good news - this product actually works (compared to another Sabrent that I couldn't get to work) - at least some of the time in some instances: This adapter WILL NOT WORK if: 1) It is connected to a USB hub - powered or unpowered, doesn't matter - Windows reports an 'unknown device' if it's plugged into a hub. 2) The printer is 'ON' when the adapter is plugged into the computer (whereupon it will try and install drivers which it can't) The only way I've gotten this to work is a) plug the adapter into a built-in USB port with the attached parallel printer powered OFF b) IMMEDIATELY after the ding-dong of Windows recognizing a new plugged-in USB device, turn the printer power on. (If you wait too long, the printing may not work). 2* because it's so tricky to get it to work, and only works in some conditions - not at all what I expect from USB....
USB to Parallel Printer Cable April 13, 2008 Richard Surratt (Mclean, VA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I replaced my old PC with a Dell desktop running XP and with no parallel port (USB only). I purchased this adaptor, plugged it into the USB port of the PC and into the female end of the existing printer cable and followed the directions per buckeye as indicated below to get it to work. Works great, no need to buy a new printer (for now). The directions in the package and the driver/installation disc that came with the adaptor sucked and I could not figure out how to get the printer to work from what was in the box. If it had not been for the directions below, would probably be out $200 for a new printer. thanks buckeye Works ok with HP PSC 500, March 2, 2008 By buckeye3059 - See all my reviews (1) I had to have the adapter plugged into my laptop's USB port and the other end of the adapter attached to my HP PSC 500 printer cable while the printer was powered OFF; (2) I turned on the printer, went to Start -> Settings -> Printers and Faxes -> Add Printer -> Add Printer Wizard and picked the "Virtual Printer Port for USB" (Thanks Crolks!) instead of the default LPT1 port. No need to use the enclosed CD.
