Fast and reliable August 19, 2008 Clovis (Sao Paulo - Brazil) I plug this 3805 on my ASUS P5K MoBo with five 500G SATA WD and one 400G Hot spare. I made a combination of raid 0, 5 and 6 within the HDs and put my most valuable files into the Raid 6 "disk" (each Raid is seen as a individual "disk" by the OS). Raid 0 is for paging files and Raid 5 for general data. Installation is not hard but you'd better have some expertise on Raid to understand the documentation. I installed Windows Vista from scratch and get some headaches until the disks were properly recognized, after this everything works fine. Speed is not my primary target but even Raid 6 seems substantially faster than Intel Matrix controller embbeded in my MoBo.Having more than 1 Terabyte of data protected from 2 HDs failure is what makes this controller good for me. Just forget this if you want faster windows start up, the 3805 BIOS loading will more than offset any Windows faster startafter shutdown due to faster data transfer. Pros: value for the price, speed, build quality. Maybe silly but useful: led output connector to monitor bus activity. Cons: Not so easy installation, needs plenty of cooling (the Raid CPU gets really hot and works at 49C/120F even with a 80 mm fan blowing fresh air on it) and long cabling (hard to put everything inside the case).
