Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description -- November 13, 2007
We've been big fans of Magellan's Maestro line since it came out in early 2006. The Maestro interface is incredibly easy to use, even for those who are not completely comfortable with electronics. At the same time, Magellan was ahead of the industry with useful innovations like multi-destination routing and pre-loaded reviews for points of interest like hotels and restaurants (from AAA). With it's 3200 and 4200 series, Magellan has improved the Maestro line giving them a SirfStar III chipset that provides super-fast. satellite lock and making them thinner. In fact, at .7 inches, these are -- at the time of this writing (November 2007), the thinnest portable GPS navigators available.

Distingushing between models is also fairly easy. The 3200-series navigators feature a 3.5-inch screen, while the 4200s have a 4.3-inch widescreen display. The 3200 and 4200 offer great, basic navigation with turn-by-turn spoken directions, pre-loade maps of the 48 contiguous United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and 1.3 million POIs. The 3210 and 4210, add maps for Canada and Alaska, AAA travel information (see details below) and bump you up to 6 million POIs. The 3220 and 4220 add maps of Mexico. The top-of-the-line 3250 and 4250 add a host of other features, including text-to-speech directions that give real street names, bluetooth for hands-free phone calls, integrated traffic (with a free 3-month subscription), and voice command.

What Makes the Maestro 4200 Exceptional?

Easy To Use Interface
The intuitive user interface makes the Maestro series incredibly easy to use. Use the big icons on the 4.3-inch widescreen touch screen to search for your destination by address, intersection, or any of 1.3 million points of interest (POIs), including restaurants, hotels, airports, gas stations, and more. You can even touch an onscreen icon for a nearby destination, see name and address, and get an instant route. Turn by turn visual and spoken directions guide you every step of the way.

Auto re-route gets you quickly back on track whenever you make a detour or miss a turn. QuickSpell feature intelligently searches and checks spelling when you enter addresses. The 4200 offers multiple view options, including 2D, 3D, and TrueView that shows your upcoming turn using a 3D split screen. Maneuver List displays the full turn-by-turn details of your route. Auto night view adjusts color and contrast for easy night viewing

2 out of 5 stars It's ok...........But....   April 3, 2008

Well, the good first...

The unit is bright, Crisp and big... Touch Screen seems to work pretty good... Probably the best thing this has going for it is that it pick up GPS signals well and is fast in doing so.... It does seem to get you to where you want to go tho. The back light when it gets dark it reverses the screen is a nice touch.

CONS...

Why have the Voice at all ???????? IT doesn't speak the street names ... Right or Left (BING) ... I use MUTE it really is annoying as hell. AAA trip that has all the location for banks or what not... USELESS... Might as well just drive around looking for them since it hardly picks up even 40% of them in my town. OK, So maybe you want to update this machine? Yeah, they give a USB cable. Ok, WHY? You have to back it up if you want to update it. Well, you gonna need a memory card... Nope don't look in the box, and it's that old style ram you can't just get out of your digital camera... I have my doubts that it would do much good updating the unit anyway. I really just wanted to load the software so I could key in my addresses via google maps or whatever. NO...No...NO... The software is USELESS! You can't just import you gotta type out this screwed up format ... Witch brings us to the keyboard and why you would want to do use your computer for inputting address's in the first place. The keyboard is ABCDEFG Keyboard not a standard lay out. No way to switch or no options. How hard would it be to make a GPS interact with goole maps or microsoft maps? Or any map?

A gave it two stars ... As it is good for just seeing where your at... But in todays world I think for 2-300 bucks they could have better a interface... I would stay away from Magellan.

4 out of 5 stars Great GPS unit with only one flaw   May 3, 2008

Like all the Magellan products, this unit features a sharp, clear interface that is easy to use. You don't need instruction manuals to get started, it's very intuitive. The size of the screen is amazing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that unlike many of the Magellan models I'm familiar with, you can't enable the unit saying the street names. I just announces "Right" "Left" etc. and the distance.

3 out of 5 stars Good value   June 12, 2008

Good looking Nav unit is easy to operate. Its reasonably accurate, and has an excellent database of points of interest.

It isn't feature-laden like more expensive models; this is a no-frills Nav unit.

The map is October 2007, so if you live in an area ripe with development like Las Vegas(well, there USED to be development), then you might be disappointed to find out there are no new map updates for this unit.

Final thought on this unit, and it applies to all Nav units, is that frankly I see very little utility in owning a Nav unit unless you travel often to places you are unfamiliar with. Nav units are no substitute for real knowledge and experience of the roadways.

5 out of 5 stars BEST NAVIGATOR FOR BOOBS   June 2, 2008

I am totally NOT inclined to make technology work. I plugged this is my cigarette lighter and in knew where I was, I put the address I was destined for and it gave me directions. Even with no address I can't get lost because it always has a GPS tracking and I know where I am. It shows me a map and where I am heading. I LOVE THIS!

1 out of 5 stars Just Trash   May 10, 2008

My unit is 3 days old and its dead already. On the first day it took two or three tries to get the unit to turn on, now it will only boot right after you take it off the charger. It isn't the battery because once its on, it stays on but as soon as you power it off, its dead. So it isn't a mechanical flaw, its a firmware issue. The device reset button doesn't help either.

Another real annoyance is that when it is on the charger the device puts up a screen saying that it is connected via USB and you can't navigate away from the screen to continue using it.
