Amazon.com Product Description Have you ever wondered, "Will I hit traffic on this route? Should I go a different way instead?" With the TrafficGauge Seattle-Bellevue mobile traffic map, you'll know the answers instantly and at a glance. The handy device lets you stay on top of driving conditions, tells you when and where to steer clear of traffic congestion, and puts you comfortably in control of your daily driving options. Even if you can't change your route, you can still make the most of your time by knowing what you're facing. Whether you're turning on your favorite music, scheduling or updating your appointments, or having a snack, you can at least stop kicking yourself for making bad drive-time decisions. Let TrafficGauge mind the road so you arrive prepared and less stressed. Using TrafficGauge is like adding a time-saving instrument to your car's dashboard--an easy-to-read gauge that guides you around frustrating traffic jams. Live, real-time information with up-to-the-minute reporting allows you to view road conditions at home, work, or en route to your destination. The device also pinpoints traffic slowdowns and indicates light, medium, or heavy traffic to help you plan your departure time or change your route. The shirt-pocket-portable unit also includes a backlight button for viewing traffic info in low-light conditions, day or night. Of course, safety is always a paramount concern, which is why the device also boasts an easy-to-read map that's specially designed to accommodate quick glances, thus keeping your mind on the road and away from distractions. Another handy regional feature is the unique "home game" symbol that lets you plan around heavy traffic before or after a sporting event. The TrafficGauge mobile traffic map covers more than 176 freeway miles, including all major Seattle-Bellevue area freeways (I-90, 520, I-5, and I-405) and express lane traffic conditions. All the official traffic data comes directly from WSDOT (Washington State Department of Transportation), so you receive the latest up-to-the-minute info. It's also important to note that the TrafficGauge map is fixed; the only available area is what's on the device's screen (there's no scrolling option, in other words). This helps with both readability and safety. The TrafficGauge display functions wherever a wireless signal can be received, including areas off the map. And at 2.5 by 3.5 inches (W x H), it takes up virtually no space at all. The TrafficGauge runs for roughly two months on a pair of AA batteries and is backed by a one-year warranty. Great for travelling in metro King County December 30, 2006 Darcy Burner (Carnation, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've travelled all over King and Pierce Counties in the last two years, and the TrafficGauge has been fantastic. In this form factor, it's most useful to people who are crossing the I-90 and WA-520 bridges on a regular basis and have to decide which bridge to take. That has saved me many dozens of hours of commute time. It's also been extremely helpful for figuring out when I have to leave to get to where I'm going -- and is quicker than a website and doesn't require an internet connection. Note: TrafficGauge has just released a larger version with much better coverage of the areas north, south, east, and west of the device shown here.
Not what I'd hoped for. July 9, 2006 James Hannah (Anacortes, WA USA) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was disappointed to discover that the unit only displayed traffic for basically the King County area of I-5 and I-405. As a frequent commuter from Skagit County, I had hoped for broader coverage. As it stands, I probably rely more heavily on radio reports,
not worth what i paid fore October 19, 2006 Thang Do (seattle, wa usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
purchasing this device thinking it was cool, it actually wasn't at all what i expect it to be for the price i was paying. the coverage is too narrow, ofcourse it said so already and i know before i bought it but i really regret paying 40 + for it, if it cover 99, and atleast some broader range of i 5, then it is worth it, but for the coverage that it gives, it would only be worth $10 ( not to mention the monthly service charge ). for pro: atleast it gives you and idea of what i5 and 405 is like and the direction of carpool. tip: i wouldn't buy this for anyone i know for gift if i were you.
Good Device October 25, 2007 Hubert Clark (Seattle, WA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Got this little piece of technology for free from the UW and it seems to be quite handy. Good for determining which roads to take, or more correctly, which roads not to take. The picture shows an outdated gauge although I'm not sure which one you'll get if you buy this. The one I have covers the freeways shown, plus I5 from Everett to Tacoma, highway 525, highway 167, highway 512 and highway 99. I'd definitely recommend this item if you drive in rush hour traffic in the Puget Sound area.
