1 out of 5 stars Typical HP Support (absent)   November 12, 2007

There is an old saying "When you hit rock bottom, stop digging." HP shpuld take that advice. I have owned several HP printers, and while the hardware is (usually) very good, the software is marginal at best. My biggest complaint used to be that HP would deliver version 1.0 of the software for a particular printer, and update it maybe once, and then never again. So, for instance, Vista comes out and good luck getting any HP drivers for older models except for the top of the line commercial printers like the HP LaserJet 5si/simx. However, this printer is an example of the new low they have achieved. This printer hit the market about the same time as Vista with only their "basic" driver. On their web site they promise to deliver the full driver titled the "HP Photosmart Pro B8300 Full Feature Software and Drivers" package EARLY IN 2007. Well, here we are in LATE 2007 and no driver package. No wonder Amazon wants to sell this thing cheaply! I'll bet HP gave them a really good deal on these puppies. So before you buy this printer look at HP's web site and see if they have the "full featured" i.e. not basic drivers available for your operating system. Also, check the price on replacement ink cartridges. And finally be aware that this model does not have an ethernet port built in. Some of the reviews implied that this model came with an ethernet port, but that is an optional feature that this unit doesn't have it! Good luck.

4 out of 5 stars Holy Cow! What a Printer!   March 31, 2007

I would have given this printer 5 stars except for the fact that it does not print directly from a media card, but I can live with that. (I also wish it had included an owner's manual; I don't want to print out 154 pages from the hp website!)
I was looking for a printer that would handle paper wider than 8 1/2 inches (I am a scrapbooker) and this model fills the bill for a reasonable price. But its most outstanding quality is its absolutely stunning photo prints! I found things in my photos that I did not know were there. Skin tones are absolutely accurate. And it is speedy. I love my new printer!

1 out of 5 stars Horrible HP support   June 18, 2007

I think I got the bad apple. I can not print 13 x 19 prints on this printer which is the only reason I bought it. It finally printed 1 photo after 12 hours of being in a printing status. I haven't been able to print another one.
I've been working with HP support for 3 days and I have to say it's been a horrific experience. They don't answer any of the questions I ask and I have spent hours trying to troubleshoot this myself. I ask "how long should it take for a file that is 257mb on 13x19 paper to print - give me a range, is 12 hours too much? I get a response about how to prepare settings to allow the paper to dry when printing multiple pages.
By the way, I have plenty of RAM.
Be prepared if you get the "bad apple" don't expect HP support to help you.

4 out of 5 stars Thing is a Beast   February 27, 2007

Whenever I think of any printer, from the biggest poster printer on down to the lowly dot matrix dinosaur fax machine I think of that one scene from office space where they put the smack down on the fax machine for betraying them so dearly. As far as any printer goes I feel that the minute you connect it to a computer or a network it is just a matter of time before it quits working correctly and you're soon forced to that old mechanics logic of "wiggle this and rattle that and it'll fire right up."

Discounting all of that and completely ignoring my personal war against electronics to make them work properly I'd have to say the photos that this thing spits out are quite impressive. Honestly I am not a pro photographer and the thing is so big that it takes up half of my computer desk. So what if it makes somewhat scary and horrific noises that send the dog running when it spits out a finished product? Oh yeah and when I say spits out, I mean it can knock over a glass of water or an already haphazardly set cup of old pens with ease. Simply said the thing is a beast and it does good work.

As far as I'm concerned all of these large formats are the same and what really matters is what brand you want stamped on it pure and simple. Just buy one with cheap inks that's the only important thing.

4 out of 5 stars HP B8350 Printer   March 8, 2007

The HP B8350 does a beautiful job of printing on the paper that I use (Staples double sided matte) however I have a few hang ups.

It can take up to five minutes just to send the print job to the printer which obviously adds undesired time to a print job and I had some issues with it not wanting to print on larger paper, which is, of course, the only reason I bought it. HP was absolutely no help on that problem and I resolved it myself, but I have no idea how I did that.

I would also like to see more definative communication from the lights and buttons on the front.

Given the price for the quality, I would buy it again.
