Decent output; outrages maintenance cost. June 11, 2007 Luis E. D. Gimenez (San Antonio, TX. USA) 55 out of 58 found this review helpful
This printer produces decent output for this price range. Real-world Speed is quite good and appropriate for any occasional printing. A bit on the wide side but does not occupy too much desk space. My main complaint however, is that Canon (like most other printer manufacturers for low-end printers) sells the black dye and color ink cartridges at a very steep price. The black cartridge only comes with 11 ml of ink and the color cartrige comes with only 3 ml for cyan, magenta or yellow. So be ready for high costs per printout. At first, I thought this printer would be appropriate for the occasional printout but each (full) cartridge replacement costs of the printer's initial cost. Therefore, I cannot recommend this printer. Get a higher end model even if you do not expect to print that much as long-term costs will be lower.
No Frills Printer: Just What I Want July 31, 2007 J. Battani (Sunrise, FL United States) 28 out of 30 found this review helpful
I needed to replace my HP8150 Printer. My Hp hit the skids during the "simple" operation of changing the ink. A tiny piece of plastic broke off and that doomed the printer. The Canon PIXMA iP 1800 was interesting as the price was low and it was only one of a few printers available that were not either small photo printers or the all-in-one printers. I already have a fax machine and a scanner, so I was not going to spend the money for things I did not need. I needed a printer that could print some picture and also deliver printed text. I also, was looking for simple operation. The Canon is simple to operate. It does what I need it to do.
Took it back... July 9, 2007 Harold Carlson III (Richland, WA) 24 out of 27 found this review helpful
I bought this locally at a famous low-price leading retailer on an impulse (I needed a new printer anyway). They had it for about 10% less than Amazon which I thought, thought, was a great deal. Little did I know it was not. The old adage does hold true for this printer, "you get what you pay for." First off, I know the ink cartridges that come with new printers are just to get you started. I printed off 10 4x6's and the color ink was already showing 1/4 gone. The ink is cheap though but you don't get a whole lot in each cartridge. Secondly, the pictures, when I printed them were brighter than what I showed on my screen. So much so that they were almost washed out. I tried adjusting the brightness in the printer options but it didn't do anything. Lastly, maybe I'm just used to my other printer, but not having an output tray is a pain! The only really cool feature that I found was the software that enable borderless printing. It let you automatically crop your photos to fill the whole paper. If you want a decent photo printer I might look elsewhere.
Nice printer, but not for Windows98! May 14, 2007 Margaret Foster (Palmyra, Virginia USA) 14 out of 20 found this review helpful
This is a nice printer, but note that it is NOT compatible with Windows98 or ME. Canon's website confirms this.
Canon Prima IP1800 October 11, 2007 Thomas A. Juhl (Dayton, OH USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This printer is one of the best values that I found. The price is within almost anyones budget. But the quality is the same as many of the much more expensive printers. Quite fast and excellent quality for black and white and color photos. Also, it uses two (2) ink cartridges, one black and white and one color and they are both much cheaper than other printers. One can buy then from Canon for about $20 or less. Thus, if you are like most users who use one more than the other, you can save. I would recommend this printer to both new and expert users. A great buy.
