I used the Skyfi3 for about 2 weeks now. The sounds quality during music and the selection of XM channels is terrific. During speech you hear the compression artifacts but its not terrible. Since I upgraded the firmware to the newest version the unit constantly locks up. It's a terrible thing that makes me want to buy a different model. Do only upgrade the firmware if you have to...Don't fix what ain't broken.
Add on: I do not believe in Werwolf's but I am telling you that the Skyfi3 seems more stable ( does not lock up ) when you have the background light on always. I had lock ups 3-4 times a day but for a few days its stable now - duh

The Delphi SKYFi3 XM radio is an excellent product that gives me the versatility I want. The only problem I have found is the output on the fm modulator does not seem as strong, thus it gets over ran by the stations in the urban areas. The solution of running another wire to your car's antenna only adds to the frustration.

I use this device with awesome results in my vehicle. I use a cassette adapter to play it through my car stereo, rather than the built in FM modulator. I get much better results using the cassette adapter. I do not have the antenna mounted on the exterior of my vehicle. Rather, I simply lay it on a non-skid pad on my dashboard. This device has
many improvements over the Roady2, most notably the portability (you can use it like a Walkman with headphones purchased separately). The ability to record songs is great, as is the fact that the device has a slot for up to a 2 GB microdisk. (It will not accept a microdisk larger than 2GB). Basically, you can use this device as an MP3 player and as a satellite radio. I did do the firmware update on the product. This was no big deal to do the download online. It does freeze on a rare occasion. There is a reset option that fixes this--you simply press two keys simultaneously as directed in the manual. I got this product and a home and car kit free after rebate elsewhere, even as an existing XM subscriber. I've also purchased the headphones with built in antenna, and an extra car and home kit. I got those accessories for about $5 each on the Delphi site using a special code I found on Fat Wallet.

Having been a loyal XM customer for the past 2 years, I have always liked the quality of the radios that I've owned. My first radio was a Roady 2, which I then upgraded to a MyFi. Both were a combination of performance, reliability, and compact design. The Skyfi continues this tradition. For the most part.
If you've read the reviews previous to this one, then you've no doubt seen the complaints regarding lock-up. I too, have experienced the same problem, though under different circumstances. My unit froze during attempts to play recorded content. However, a reset (Holding down the +Volume button and pressing Mode/Power) fixed the problem at least for the time being. Looking at the other reviews and comparing my own experience, it seems to be a random thing with no particular cause. On a side note, I recently updated the firmware and have had no issues since. Whether it's just coincidence or it has remedied the problem remains to be seen.
That problem aside, it IS a good unit to have. It offers several features that previous radios have not had. Having a MyFi, I loved the ability to record content and listen to it at my leisure. My only problem was that the MyFi did not offer the ability to fast forward through recorded segments. You could only skip to the end or beginning of a track. Also, you couldn't delete individual songs, sections of a program, etc. The SkyFi 3 fixes this. Both individual track deletion and fast forwarding are here. Also, it allows you to "lock" a track so that it will not be overwritten during future recording sessions. It also allows you to schedule and perform a recording session from your car dock, which is something that the MyFi would not do. You can even make playlists of recorded content.
There are more features, but perhaps finding them out on your own and being as pleasantly surprised as I was is half the fun of this unit.
In short, I am very pleased with the radio and if you can put up with the occasional lock-up then no doubt you will be too.
Overall, I found the unit easy to use and full of features that I love and don't know how I went without them on my MyFi. If Delphi can fix the small problems remaining with the unit, then expect 5 star reviews more and more.

I would have given this five stars, because it looks really cool and works great in the car when it works, but sometimes it freezes, and other times it just doesn't work. Definitely long on features and looks, short on quality and reliability. Would I buy it again? Maybe. I would take a closer look at alternatives.
