Amazon.com Spin movies, music, photo CDs, and enjoy VHS tapes right from one handy device. The ADV-3800 from Apex includes a progressive-scan DVD-Video player with MP3 and WMA file playback as well as a four-head, hi-fi stereo VCR all in a single sleek, silver chassis. Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the ADV-3800 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. For non-HD-ready TVs sets, the unit's top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. And, for standard 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs, the unit's Active Fullscreen Function (AFF) lets you view widescreen movies in full-screen, without black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The ADV-3800 also delivers the convenience of VHS recording and playback--a great way to time shift your TV viewing and share your camcorder footage with loved ones, and the only way to enjoy your extensive library of videocassettes. Your camcorder or gaming console plugs right into convenient front-panel jacks for fast hookups. The VCR's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, and with hi-fi sound the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If you route the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded cassettes.

Apex DVD-VCR Combination May 27, 2008 Lilith A. Forde I have owned an Apex VCR-DVD combo unit for four years. It has served me well. I am in the process of purchasing another unit. I am very satisified with the service.
works like a dream December 3, 2006 Deena Williams I've read a lot of the complains on this dvd player but mine works just fine going on two years now. it plays like a dream but because of the dual combo it's very bulky but it fits fine on top of the tv. never had a problem with it not playing store bought dvds or cds however when i try to play dvd-r it might take a minute to load. but when i burned a movie off my computer on a regular blank cd it played like it was store bought quality and much cheaper than purchasing dvd-r
Don't buy it November 12, 2006 JHW (Needham, MA United States) DVD player stopped working after 6 months of fairly light use. Cleaning disk didn't help.
plays everything January 26, 2006 Justin Chillin (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
has worked great for over a year dvd plays everything - dvd-r s much better than much more expensive units i have as for the previous complaints on the vcr; simply do NOT put another component (or anything heavier than a dvd or tape) on top of the unit. i did this at first and vcr was practically unusable but now works decently
This machine is a night mare September 21, 2005 C. Poe 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The 1st unit we received was broken on the DVD side. After exchanging hassle and shipping back. The new unit starts breaking after 6 months. The DVD quality sucks, VCR has never worked right.... Do they have a negative star rating?
