Great milk, terrible price August 2, 2007 sellquality (California) 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
I love this chocolate milk--especially in my morning coffee. But $25 for an 18-pack is JUST WRONG! I bought an 18-pack this morning at Whole Foods for $15.99!
Horizon Organic Milk is a Hoax June 3, 2008 Jeff Elder 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
Where to begin? What do real organic farmers and dairy farmers have to fear? A company that masquerades as organic but really has no interest beyond profiteering on the organic label. Horizon, owned by the giant Dean Foods, is such a company. Read up on this as much as you can - the more you learn the more you'll avoid this brand at every opportunity. Read up on a lawsuit with the FDA that the current administration has turned a blind eye towards -- just google cornucopia and Horizon. Real family dairy farmers say most organic dairy brands play by the rules but not Horizon. Observe their claim about family farms in the public relations product description above and then check out this picture of one of their "animal friendly" farms - just google fagundes and cornucopia -- what lovely pasture these cows have to enjoy. What crime did these cows commit to be put in the stockades like that? The only crime I see is that this milk is allowed to be sold at the organic price draped in pastoral imagery. Why take the chance? Buy local organic milk or another brand that you can trust. Look at this Dairy Report Card -- just google Dairy Report Card and cornucopia - to see how your favorite milk labels stack up.
Great Alternative for School Lunches February 18, 2008 JGigli (Mudville) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I really am glad that I stumbled on the $10 off promo and tried these chocolate milk cartons. The kids like them better than juice, and I do too! Even putting 100% juice in the lunches is not as good as these. With the school lunch periods getting shorter & shorter, I want to be sure that the kids get nutritionally dense foods - not just a short term sugar rush. These help immensely. I really recommend the product, and will continue to purchase it.
Fantastic Taste, Convenient, VERY EXPENSIVE January 7, 2008 TwinGrlMom (Pittsburgh, PA United States) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
My entire family loves the taste of this milk, and the small cartons are fantastic for the kids to just grab and go. However, I did some small calculations that I thought I would share that shocked me. A pack of 18, 8 ounce cartons equals 144 ounces total, which then converts to 1.125 gallons. So basically you are paying $25 for a gallon of chocolate milk, compared to about $4 to $5 @ the supermarket. If you are on a budget as most of us are, I would urge you to reconsider buying these small cartons, buy a couple gallons @ the grocery store and re-use your sippy cups or other glasses you regularly use at home. You'll create less waste and save more money!
great August 22, 2007 JET GIRL 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Since I've started buying groceries at amazon I have discovered "taste great" is a pretty subjective thing. That's obvious since everyone has different tastes, but even so I wonder about some of the great reviews on some things. So I bought this because it was on sale with the 20 dollars off deal and didn't actually expect to enjoy the milk. I bought the regular milk and this chocolate. Well, I'm pleasantly surprised to say it actually does taste great. The milk does have a very very slight different taste from milk you would get in your supermarket, but in no way does that take away from the milk. I drunk it when it was over room temp and then when it was cool. It tasted better cold, but it wasn't bad warmer either. So I guess Horizon can consider me a convert to their milk and I will certainly buy again before the sale is off.
