Long time Splenda user reconsiders July 26, 2007 K. Andrews 13 out of 29 found this review helpful
I have been using Splenda off and on since it became available to consumers. During that time when I am using the most Splenda I get insomnia, tired eyes, sleepy during the day, and excessive weight gain. I was taking an average of 8-10 packets per day. After checking out the web site called splenda exposed dot com I found out I am not the only one with these problems. I am going back to Stevia, which I have used in the past. It's not an artifical sweetener, it's all natural from a plant grown in South America and tastes nearly identical to sugar in a similar intensity to the sweetness of Splenda. From what I have read, Splenda has arsenic in it which is poisonous and the chemical structure of Splenda is known to have caused numerous problems in insect and animal studies. Although I do enjoy the flavor of Splenda immensely and love the thought of reducing calories I am not sure the end result is the desired result. If you try stevia I have found Sweet Leaf brand to be unpleasant but I really love the flavor of Stevita Stevia, it tastes just like sugar. Unfortunately, Stevia's sweetness does not hold up in hot beverages or baking but works very well in cold foods and beverages.
splenda = not so splendid November 20, 2007 Par Lin Hsu 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
From Doctor Colbert's book the "The Seven Pillars of Health": "Splenda brand sweetener is a substance called sucralose, which is made by turning sugar into a chlorocarbon. A few of the side effects of sucralose in animal studies include shrunken thymus glands, enlarged liver and kidneys, atrophy of the lymph follicles in the spleen and thymus, reduced growth rate, decrease in red blood cell count, hyperplasia of the pelvis, aborted pregnancy, decreased fetal body weights and placental weights, and diarrhea."
better price than 400 count October 9, 2006 K. Crosby (Middle of Iowa) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
This 700 count box is cheaper to use than the 400 count splenda for big time users of Splenda! Or share with a friend and save money! Amazon does it again. Convenient things all in one place!
My favorite new sweetener! January 6, 2007 ! Betty Dravis (San Jose, CA) 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
At one time in my life I used the sweetener in the little blue packet, then switched to the pink packet, but NOW "they" tell me the yellow packet containing SPLENDA is the healthiest. Since diabetes runs in my family, I don't want to risk getting that disease or gaining too much weight, so I hope "they" are right in promoting this product. I've been using it for about a year ... mostly on certain brands of cereal and my hot oatmeal. It actually enhances the flavor of things I sprinkle it on and actually tastes like it's suppose to: LIKE SUGAR. And it leaves no artificial aftertaste, which is a big plus with me. I don't drink coffee and use no sweetener with my hot tea, but it certainly helps to sweeten a big, tall glass of iced-tea on a hot summer day in California. I recommend this above all sweeteners ... until someone else comes along, proving "they" are wrong. (This seems to happen every other week in the food industry so how are we consumers supposed to know "for sure" the safest things to consume?)
Tastes great and helps me maintain my weight December 29, 2006 Sandra Trolinger (New Braunfels, TX USA) 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
I like using less sugar since I am using Splenda in my coffee most days. It tastes like sugar but has no calories and it helps control my calorie intake.
