Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Alli is the only FDA approved, over-the-counter weight loss product. But that's only part of what's different about Alli. First, Alli is not a miracle pill or a quick fix. Lots of other weight loss products promise results overnight. But Alli is based on good things like hard work, smart choices, and gradual weight loss. Second, Alli is a unique combination of a pill and a plan to help you lose even more weight than dieting alone. If you could lose 10 pounds through dieting alone, you could lose 15 with Alli. But Alli only works if you work. And individual results may vary. NOTE: This product cannot be shipped to Canada due to customs restrictions.

whatisalli

your part and our part
alli is a 60mg orlistat capsule. But it's more than just a pill. It's an innovative weight loss program that works with you, not for you. alli can help you lose 50% more weight than dieting alone, but you have to do your part by changing the way you eat.

loose more weight with alli
The alli program starts with your commitment to adopting healthy eating habits. It combines the only FDA approved, over-the-counter weight loss product with an individually tailored support plan to help you achieve gradual and healthy weight loss. When you take alli along with a reduced-calorie, low-fat diet, you can lose 50% more weight than dieting alone. For example, instead of losing 10 pounds with diet alone, you can lose 15 pounds with the alli program.

alli is safe - it works in your digestive system, not in your heart or brain. It will not cause jitters, sleeplessness, or a racing heart. You can't just try alli - you have to commit to it.

More information can be found at myalli.com, where you can also talk to alli users, registered dietitians, pharmacists, and fitness experts on the alli message board. Or talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or dietitian to help determine if you're ready.

take the packaging tour

what weight loss to expect
how does it work

alli blocks 25% of the fat you eat
Typically, enzymes in your intestines break down fat from food so your body can absorb the fat. But the active ingredient in alli attaches to some of these enzymes and prevents them from digesting about a quarter of the fat you eat. Because undigested fat can't be absorbed, it passes out of your body instead of turning into calories.

does alli have side effects?
The main side effect occurs when you eat a meal with too much fat while taking alli. If so much fat is blocked that your stool can't absorb it, you might have side effects. Because they are not harmful, we call them "treatment effects." These include loose or more frequent stools, an urgent need to go to the bathroom, or gas with an oily discharge. The excess fat that passes out of your body is in no way harmful. In fact, you may recognize it as something that looks like the oil on top of a pizza. Treatment effects can be lessened if you stick to reduced-calorie, low-fat meals that average 15 grams of fat per meal.

important usage information
  • Don't use alli if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have had an organ transplant, or if you are taking cyclosporine.

  • Do not take alli if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in alli capsules.

  • Ask a doctor before using alli if you are taking warfarin.

  • Do not take alli if you are not overweight.

  • You can take up to three alli capsules per day, one with each meal containing fat.

  • Take a multivitamin daily while taking alli capsules to ensure adequate absorption of vitamins A, D, E, K, and beta carotene.

5 out of 5 stars Two years on Orlistat   June 29, 2007

I've been taking this product for two years now. It was prescribed by my doctor after I stopped smoking and gained quite a bit of weight. I lost 60 pounds but also dieted vigorously and exercised regularly at the gym on the treadmill for 35 minutes. Oily discharge sometimes? you bet, but only when I ate meals with a high fat content. Couple bits of advice: if you feel like you need to fart, don't. You can't be sure of what will come out. Restrain yourself until you get to a toilet, just in case. Also, not only fried chicken and fried food have fat. Any kind of red meat has fat content. Rule of thumb for me is if calories from fat are high, I take a pill with the meal. This product is a lifesaver but it only works with diet and exercise.

3 out of 5 stars Alli - one week review   June 22, 2007

Trying it for past 10 days. I had already started exercise (Curves), and watching my diet, and was beginning to see progress - slowly.

I think the "treatment effects" are exaggerated as "worst case" - ie if you are stlil going to eat pizza, french fries, and fast food you will see the "effects" of that menu passing through you. And, frankly if you are on that type of a diet (I was) you were likely having similar "effects" already (I was)!

I don't know yet whether Alli will give a boost to my ongoing weight loss, but I have not experienced any of the horror effects discussed. Occasionally some orange oil in my stool - which lets me know I ate something with fat that didn't absorb - and that is, oddly, comforting.

5 out of 5 stars MY REVIEW ON ORLISTAT   June 17, 2007

First of all..I want to say that;

Mian Rashid Sajjad, you are in NO place to rate and/or review this product!! Who do you think you are and why the HECK are you rating it 1 out of 5 stars if you've never bought it? The rating option on here is for people who HAVE used it to rate it's based on it's advantages verses it's disadvantages and then to share their experiences while using it with other users/potential users. It's here to help consumers that are interested in ordering it, not made to give you a chance to preach your negative personal opinion of whether you would ever take it or not because of your beliefs. If we all went around reviewing stuff we've never bought on amazon because we didnt "like" the idea or "believe" in it instead of based on how our experiences were, then all of the useful reviews would be reduced to nothing but a popularity contest and us buyers would have nothing to go by and know nothing about it except for how ethical the products are...(thus defeating the entire purpose). If you want to preach, go to a message board, not a product review!

I mean think about it; I HATE anything cherry flavored... so maybe i should go around and rate all the candy i've never tried because it's flavored cherry and rate/review them badly(?) It wouldnt be make sense because everyone that's going to read it are people looking at the candy because they DO like cherry and are interested in maybe trying it and want to know what other people who also like cherry thought about it.

Or I'm also an athiest... what fair would be it to religious people who like to read inspirational book based on Christianity if i decided to push my opinion so i did a search on religious books and for the people who wanted to read reviews to see if the book was good or not, i went to help them by rating them all 1 out of 5 stars and then lectured about "I used to be Christian but now i dont believe God exists...and i'm so much happier now. So if you guys are looking to get inspiration out of life, do what i did and instead of buying this book, start thinking REALISTICALLY and LOGICALLY. Stop basing your life on some big invisible guy in the sky that was made up 1000's of years ago when people needed a basis for moral living and if you really want to read about how life was created and the purpose for it...just go read a book about the big bang or something science based. It worked great for me!"

Anyhow, secondly...I HAVE tried this product, and would like to rate/review it based on my experience-

I like this product and think it's much better then all the other stuff i've seen out there. You see, if you take it and don't change your eating habits or exercise, then you are more than likely to not see any change and if you do, it wont be a huge change and it will be very slowly over a long period of time. However, if you DO exercise and change your eating habits (even just a little..im not saying you go to the gym twice a day and eat only veggies), you will see a definite improvement.

Let me put it this way... A lot of us dont exercise because we are impatient with the results...so we do it a few times and then give up. However think about it; If we went and exercised a few times and DID see results already, we would be motivated to not give up and keep on exercising. And the more you do that, the more you see pounds shed and you start to feel that starting to eat healthy long term for once wouild actually be worth it now.. So in my opinion..it's worth it. Having a medication that makes the results of exercising and eating healthy show up faster and more dramatically is a big motivator for people who have been putting off loosing weight too long. Look- you're either going to stay fat and keep getting fatter....or you're going to stand up and decide to do something about it by eating healthier and doing more exercise. So if you choose the later, the sooner you do it, the easier AND if you're gonna do it, you might as well do it full force to keep the motivation up to make sure you KEEP doing it. So I think that this pill is great. NO it's not some magic pill that makes the pounds fall off. But if you are willing to spend the money to buy the pill and you want to be skinnier..then you should be willing to change your eating and activity habits a little bit to make it happen. So if you aren't going to do this, dont waste your money on the pill because it wont do anything but keep you from getting fatter as fast. But if you're the kind that wants to try but think you might give up...there's no better time then now and here is the motivation you've been waiting for... If you're gonna do it, you might as well do it right. And you might as well do it now beacuse the longer you wait, the harder it will be (age and more fat both make it harder and then youll just use that as more of an excuse not to) so stop procrastinating, buy the pill and make the changes. Youll feel great metally and physically. It's VERY worth the time, effort, and money.

What I did personally-

A: MEDICATION - I took the pill(60mg) 3 times a day.

B: DIET - To eat healthier without completely changing my entire life and without ruining eating completely (common...everyone enjoys their food), I cut back on food intake. The hunger feeling was only there for the first couple days and then after that, it goes away completely so it's just a matter of sticking it through (you're not gonna die of starvation..so it wont kill ya to just suck it up for a couple days!) I then made sure to cut back on one very fattening thing; sugar. I did things like cut back on stuff that has sugar in it that isn't junk food (like ketchup..etc) and then for actual sweets, I was only allowed one small sweet thing a day (like 1 cookie) and NO MORE regular soft drinks (so i drank tea with splenda...etc) Also, I made a list of all the 'healthier' foods that i don't despise and replaced everything that i would have eaten and then later felt guilty about with things on that list. I stopped snacking and when i did, it was a few wheat pretzels or fat free yogurt/pudding or carrot sticks or something like that.. To cut carbs, when i ate meat, i stopped eating it with bread... like chicken instead of a chicken sandwhich or a burger without a bun. And when i did eat things with bread, i tried to eat it with grain or wheat.

C: NUTRITION - Nutrition is important because some of it helps you loose weight, some of it helps you feel healthy so that you can exercise to loose weight, and some of it makes sure you stay healthy while you are cutting back on food intake to loose weight. I took a once a day pill for women that had the daily dose of LITERALLY every single thing that you basically need. I also did a LOT of scientific research to look at herbal supplements that had been PROVEN to help weight loss by giving energy, increasing fat burning or blocking, fascilitating digestion, suppressing appetite, and causing water loss. I took a few of those just for that extra edge. Here's a list of the ones i found that were proven in tests to be helpful....

Fat burning/blocking..etc; 7-keto, yerba mate, coleus forskohlii (forskolin), pyruvate, chromium, green tea (egcg), and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA).

Energy; bitter orange (citrus aurantium or synephrine)and guarana (guaranine).

Helping Digestion; aloe vera, senna (sennosides), fiber, cinnamon, and fennel.

Diuretic effect; dandelion leaf

Topical toning/skin tightning; ab-solution plus and this toning lotion made by jergins

C: METABOLISM - To speed up my metabolism (which is very important), first of all I stopped eating late at night (i couldnt eat anything within 4 hours of bed time). I also started eating 5 really small meals instead of 2-3 big ones, which really helped a lot. And I made sure in the morning, i always got my metabolism going by eating something very small like fruit.

D: CRAVINGS - For cravings (cause we all know that's one of the hardest things to not give in to and it's also what makes most people give in and give up on their diets), I did things like chew gum or suck on mints if i wanted something sweet. Most importantly, I allowed myself have my favorite weakness (choco icecream) once a week, but only as a reward, which means if i hadn't followed my diet/exercise plans that week, i couldnt have my treat. This was good because it wasn't as hard to keep things up because it wasn't like i cut everything i loved cold turkey..and it also gave me something to look foward to which was motivation to keep going, and it was a reason to keep to my plan completely because if not, i couldnt get it!

E: EXERCISE - I put a treadmill in my living room infront of the TV. When i would normally be sitting on the couch to watch TV, i instead would be WALKING on the treadmill.... I tuned out and would forget that i was even walking! It's like i didnt even know it. If i was tired that day, i wouildnt use it as an excuse to not do it, but would in stead just walk very very slowly. This helped keep my metabolism up and it also burns fat/calories (more than you'd think). I also made sure that everytime i talked on the phone for a while, i was walking on the treadmill the entire time too... Every other day i did a work out video. It's one of those 15-20 minute work outs. The workout is cardio, which burns fat, and to add some toning benefits to it, i put on 2lb weights on each ankle and wrist. The 2 lb weights stayed on all day, everday (i forgot they were even on...and noone else could see them to know either) and a lot of times i would wear them while watching TV on the treadmill too... And lastly, i just stopped being so lazy and procrastinating with anything physical. For example, if i heard the dryer buzzer go off, i made myself get up right then and there to go do the laundry...If the phone rang, i got up to answer it. If i wanted something downstairs, i didn't wait till the next time i went down for something else...if i ever needed something, that day i would run to the store just go get it... and 2 other things; I ALWAYS parked in the back of the parking lot so that i would be forced to walk to and from my car every time i went someplace (Even though i didnt want to..like if their were spaces closer i passed them and if their wasn't i wouldnt wait for a closer one like i used to), which was really good if i went out to eat because i would have to walk after i ate (activity after eating is smart because it speeds up metabolism). I also stopped going to drive thru's and walked in instead..(a little goes a long ways! every bit counts~) Lastly, I stopped taking elevators and escalators completely and ALWAYS took the stairs...

So these changes combined with Orlistat made me loose MUCH more weight MUCH faster than i would have if i would have done all this and not taken the medicine...Therefore i'd have to recommend it to anyone that wants to loose weight because it's a great motivation to do it. I hope i've helped some and good luck out there.... it DOES pay off, both mentally and physically. SO order you're today and make some changes.. it's worth it~ =)

5 out of 5 stars As close to a miracle drug as I have seen   August 24, 2007

I dieted for about a month with very meager results. 1200 calories a day, and I lost only about 1.5 pounds per week.

When I started the Alli pills my weight loss more than doubled. It has slightly tapered off over time, but it's obviously had a dramatic effect and I have lost about 25 pounds surprisngly quickly.

I still eat fatty meals at times (15 grams of fat per meal is recommended but I find this too restrictive), yet the side effects are still pretty minor. When I eat lower fat meals they are nonexistant. They also seem to descrease over time.

5 out of 5 stars Works as promised, and keeps you honest   January 25, 2008

I've been using Alli now since the middle of November, and I've lost 12 pounds, on schedule with the promised 1-2 pounds of safe weight loss per week. They have a very robust online support site for people who purchase the pills and it provides useful tracking of weight loss and encouragement in more ways than I can use. The treatment effects that you read about are what keeps people honest with Alli and essentially make it work -- if you eat too much fat at one sitting, you'll be visiting the bathroom quite frequently. You learn quick. I made it through the holidays with continued weight loss, which I view as an amazing feat. I have 13 more pounds to lose on my plan and I'll weigh what I did before I had my two kids. Easy to use, promotes healthy eating habits and lifestyle changes, and self-critiquing when you stray from the plan. I would recommend Alli to others -- it's a little pricy but I'm getting my money's worth out of it.
