4 out of 5 stars Not really health food   November 26, 2007

They seem healthy and to a degree they are. They taste like a candy bar! So smushed in chocolate you won't taste much else, unlike the standard granola bar.

They have so much fiber they're between 1 and 2 weight watchers points, depending on how you're counting it.

I only say they're not health food because, well... there is a LOT of sugar. What are you expecing from chocolate, though?

5 out of 5 stars Excellent snack...   January 2, 2008

They are unlike any other granola bar because they are moist and taste just like a candy bar. They are packed with fiber, and are actually a pretty filling snack.

Definitely worth giving a try, especially if all you've had are the super dry health bars out there.

4 out of 5 stars Tastes great but not a "health food."   January 23, 2008

I bought these to try to supplement my fiber intake without having to deal with powders and pills. Over the last few years I've found that increasing my fiber intake is a great way of losing weight and maintaining it, so I try to get around 30g a day. Foods high in fiber fill you up more quickly and aid in digestion, The Daily Recommended Value of fiber for adults is 25g per day. Most people in America probably get much less than that, closer to 7-10g a day. At 9g of fiber per serving, just eating one of these bars a day will provide a lot of assistance in meeting the DRV.

In addition to the fiber content, the bars really taste great. I've never been a fan of granola-type bars, and figured with a name like "Fiber One" these would taste like cardboard, but they are one of the best meal bars I've eaten. They are moist and have a good texture. All of the ingredients seem fresh.

At 4.5g, these bars are very low in saturated fat (they contain poly and monounsaturated fats - the "good fats). Total net carbohydrates is 19G (28g-9g of fiber), so they do contain a little more sugar than I would like (it is the third largest ingredient). Here is the nutritional info:

Calories - 150
Fat - 4.5g (2g saturated)
Carbs - 28g
Fiber - 9g
Protein - 3g

Do not be fooled into thinking these are health bars. They are basically "cookie bars" with fiber added to them. While they are not the worst thing you can eat, they certainly aren't the best. I think these bars could be made to be more nutritional, but that would probably sacrifice taste a lot. If you can get fiber through a healthier source such as Kashi GOLEAN Cereal, 14.1-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) (13g of fiber per serving), I definitely recommend that instead.

4 out of 5 stars Great healthy snack   March 7, 2008

I love this product. It's delicious! I will eat one of these instead of a candy bar. This tastes as good as a candy bar; but is healthier and more filling. The fiber content is high and I like that. What I do NOT like about the product is that it contains high fructose corn syrup and other artificial ingredients. Why can't they just use agave or some other natural sweetener? But companies keep taking a healthy fiber filled item and refining it to death and adding killer ingredients. But overall, I think it's healthier than a candy bar.

5 out of 5 stars We LOVE These!   February 17, 2008

You know something has to have a LOT of sugar in it for kids to like it and well, this product is a hit with kids! But, they're good for adults for a mid-afternoon snack, when you need something to give you a boost of energy and something that satisfies your sugar craving. The fiber is an extra boost too, fills up your stomach more than those other granola bars. These go into the lunch boxes almost on a daily basis and they get rave reviews! Highly recommend!
