WHEN "NUTS TO YOU!" IS A GOOD THING June 5, 2008 Gail Cooke (TX, USA) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Upon opening this can of almonds we first noticed the fresh aroma - a very good sign. They tasted as if they'd been packed yesterday. We love chocolate covered nuts, but these are the first nuts we have tried that were covered with a chocolate powder rather than the usual chocolate glaze, and we liked the change very much. The powder coating seemed to enrich the taste of the nuts rather than covering it. We have found them to be appreciated when served with pre-dinner cocktails or as an after supper treat. They're a welcome addition to our pantry shelf!
Tasty snack! May 29, 2008 Kendra 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you're like me, sometimes you might just crave the taste of chocolate, despite the fact that you really know you shouldn't eat any (assuming it's not on your eating plan)! Well, if that's the case, than these Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds will alleviate those cravings while providing a healthy snack chock full of protein and healthy fats. I only ate 5 of these almonds and was completely satisfied. The cocoa has a subtle, yet tasty, chocolaty flavor and the almonds tasted fresh. My son, though, really enjoys these nuts and eats 'em by the handful. This is a good product I'd completely recommend.
Lots of Nut, Little Chocolate; Mixed Results May 28, 2008 Jacob Hantla (Chandler, AZ United States) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was particularly excited to try Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds when they arrived in the mail today as I love chocolate and I love nuts. Five individuals ranging in age from 2 to 50 tried these together and shared feedback. A few common threads emerged. 1. Chocolate doesn't come off on your hands: Very convenient as there is almost no residue left on hands even after holding a handful of nuts for a minute. 2. Very subtle chocolate flavor: For some this is a plus and for some this is a negative. You know the chocolate is there, but in my opinion it just leave you wanting more chocolate. I couldn't eat more than 10 or so for that reason. They were just plain frustrating. This was the consensus of 4 out of the 5 taste testers. The fifth loved them and plans on finishing off my canister and probably ordering more. They are definitely not milk chocolately, but have barely discernible, subtle dark chocolate undertones. 3. Dry: We all needed to drink water immediately after tasting the nuts as they dried our mouths out, much more than normal salted or roasted almost or any other nut for that matter. Three of us described them as tasting "burnt" or "too roasted". 4. We keep eating them: Even though I'm not crazy about these nuts - in fact only one of us was - we keep coming back for more about every hour or so. I get frustrated every time I do, either wanting a chocolate bar or just some plain old chocolate. Perhaps this is a good trait in a snack, that you can't keep eating them ad nauseum. Other observations The 11 oz ergonomically comfortable container is about 8 inches tall and fits perfectly in your hand or in the cup holder of the car. The lid is screw-on rather than flip-top. The package contains 11 servings of 150 calories apiece (120 calories from fat), 13 grams of fat, six grams of carbs, and 6 grams of protein. Very much the same as other nut products. The conclusion? If you aren't sure already that you love these nuts, buying a four-pack might be too much for you. But if you love them, you love them, as evidenced by our one taste tester and many of the other reviews. I'd recommend trying a smaller volume before ordering in bulk here.
Not That great. May 29, 2008 M Felix (originally from 4 places in CALIF throughout 24 years of my life. Now in Tacoma, WA 98422) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
While the Almond taste is on point, the chocolate taste is not. They were pretty much just plain dry roasted almonds with Cocoa powder mixed with Splenda sprinkled on them. I could only really taste the chocolate with my first bite. After a few bites, All I could taste is almond. The light chocolate taste was just a little too light for me. And for someone who eats chocolate like it's becoming extinct, this is a bad thing. Plus, the chocolate powder was very difficult to remove from my hands. PROS 1. Great Almond Flavor CONS 1. Just a hint of chocolate - for others this may be a pro but for me, EH, not such a good thing 2. Coated in a messy chocolate powder. - It's Best if you have mouth to canister contact when eating these. To sum it all up, I've had better.
I like my nuts I can not lie June 7, 2008 Andrew Gray (Minnesota) 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
I have always liked chocolate covered almonds. It's just something aout the combination that is really enjoyable. So, when I got a chance to try these I jumped all over it right away. First off, the container is much bigger than I thought. There are a lot of nuts in one package. Secondly, unlike most chocolate covered nuts, these nuts are baked with the chocolate (not dipped). This dramatically cuts down on the mess. Flavor is very good. Normally I am not a very big fan of dark chocolate it always leaves an odd aftertaste in my mouth. Here, that wasn't the case. It was a perfect mix between tastingt he chocolate and tasting the nut and didn't leave much (if any) of an after taste. Emerald nuts has always had high quality standards and this product is not any different. I enjoyed my can and will certainly be buying more in the future.
