4 out of 5 stars It works   March 10, 2008

I can't hear the annoying birds chirping next to my windows anymore. Nor can I hear the furnace. I do hear the alarm clock when it goes off. So I am not worried about not hearing a fire alarm or something like that.

Very comfortable. It doesn't hurt my ears. However, after 8 hours I just want to take it out.

So far I've reused the same pair 4 times and it seems to be holding up.

These will be great for those long flights.

Recommended.

Flents brand quiet please earplugs work 10x better than these. The Hearos brand barely blocked out any noise and were uncomfortable as well.

5 out of 5 stars Best I've Tried, And I've Tried Many   June 17, 2008

As I write this, I have in front of me the last of a 4 pr pack purchased from WalMart. I must have smaller than average ear canals, because unlike the other reviewers, I find these to be the most comfortable, highest sound attenuating ear plugs I've ever used -- including a $100 custom made pair that are comfortable but do not attenuate as well. Another reviewer mentioned a preference for another brand also sold at WalMart -- I believe he is referring to the day-glo orange plugs (Silencio?) usually sold in their sporting goods departments. Those plugs are made from a harder material than these, are slightly large for my ears, and become painful after an hour or so of use. These Hearos are sold in their pharmacy area and are so comfortable I'm sure I could wear them all day if I needed to. I wear them occasionally at work when I'm under a deadline and REALLY need to concentrate. They're almost too quiet, they really do block out everything! It strikes me now that a possible reason some reviewers are dissatisfied is that the material these are made from is so soft that they're more difficult to insert correctly versus more rigid plugs. Compress them into a much smaller diameter cylinder by rolling the plug between your thumb and forefinger, then grab the back of your ear by reaching behind your head with your other hand and insert as far as it'll go (making sure to leave enough to be able to pull them out when you're done).

4 out of 5 stars Good for medium-length uses   April 5, 2008

I bought these for sleeping in the same room with my snoring roommate. These work wonderfully, but I almost always end up waking up and pulling them out; they make my ears feel all gross after they've been in for a bit. All in all good purchase, though.

1 out of 5 stars Not as good as advertised   April 5, 2008

I was disappointed--they really don't block out much noise. I went back to using the cheap ones I get at Wal-Mart. They are not as comfortable, but block out a lot more sound! Maybe these are good to block out background noise, but not someone snoring!
