I actually started taking this for other reasons after doing some research on PubMed. One thing I will say up front is that I'm only taking one pill in the morning, not three a day. I have not had the "seaweed-pee" effect. It has made me much more sensitive to caffeine, but I suppose it's good I'm cutting back. I did feel "off" the first couple weeks, and I occasionally crave beets (go figure), but I think there is a good reason for that.
There is something important to remember when taking this product. It triggers the metabolism of white fat cells. What many people don't realize is that the body uses fat (more so white than brown) as a sort of garbage can. Chemicals that it cannot properly metabolize, especially chemicals that are oligophillic (oil-soluble) rather than hydrophillic (water soluble, which tend to be urinated away), are simply sequestered into fat cells. It's the body's equivalent of "sweeping under the rug". So, if you have things like pesticides and such sequestered in your fat cells, and you add fucoxanthin and suddenly start metabolism in your fat, all the sequestered stuff is suddenly dumped back into your system. In the long run it's good to clean it out, but it can make you feel like crap at the beginning.
If you take this, start with just one in the morning, not the recommended three. Also, cut back a bit on caffeine. (If you're on other health supplements, taurine, guarana extract, and yerba mate extract *are* caffeine. Caffeine is a simple, flat, *non-chiral* molecule.) Drink extra clean water to help your body flush. Eat more fresh veggies to help break down extra homocystine.

I started a diet last june (2006) lost about 20-25 pounds then hit this plateau in November (2006). I tried everything from exercising more, eating less calories, eating more calories, balancing my Omega 3's, switch my diet around, nothing seemed to work. Long story short i have been taking Fucothin for about 2 weeks (may 2007) and i have lost two pound per week!!! Of course i have been eating health and watching my portion size, but i am not counting calories and i do exercise...but i have been doing that and couldn't break it! Below is what I wrote when I first tried fucothin. I knew it was a risk but the research I read was convincing enough for me to want to give it a try. Once I was suing the product consistently, about 2 weeks into its use -- I noticed that my urine was smelling like rotted vegetables, the odor was strong it wafted up from the toilet. y urine also became cloudy and dark. It took me several days to figure out what might the cause - I suspected fucothin because it is made from (Japanese) brown seaweed. I also noticed I started craving cakes and sweets and was not able to control those urges -- the opposite of my initial experience. You are supposed to take fucothin for 6 weeks before you will experience the thermogenic (fat-burning) effect. I do serious cardio 5 -6 times a week and lift serious weights 2-3 times a week. Though I kept up with my cardio in the Am, by PM I had not energy to lift weights. All of this led me to suspect it was the fucothin-- as it was the only thing I changed.
So I stopped taking it. It took about 4 days for my urine to stop smelling, being cloudy, and burning. I realized that a certain malaise I had been feeling was lifting. And my food cravings stopped.
These kinds of supplements have different effects on different people so if this interests you give it a try -- but only get one bottle (a month's worth.) I bought 3 more after my initial positive experience. Though I got them at a great price on Amazon -- I am now stuck with a more than 3 month supply that cost me nearly $100. And my experience was bad enough, I would not give it to anyone.
My original very positive review follows:
I am on a plan in which I eat 6 small meals instead of 3 large ones and snacks. (Keeps metabolism burning more sustainedly throughout the day.) I also exercise with cardio 5 days a week and lifting weights 2-3 days a week.
My biggest problem is at night when I crave sweets -- it get so bad, that to minimize damage I will binge on fruit -- which is still a lot of sugar going into my system late in the evening -- which is very fat-producing.
Though I got Fucothin as an addition to my panoply of thermogenics, it had a side benefit completely unexpected. If I eat my food on time, spaced throughout the day as it should be, I can manage my late night sweet cravings quite well with some part skim ricotta cheese mixed with Splenda sweetened protein powder.
I can't comment on its thermogenic effects as it is to be taken consistently for at least 6 weeks before its effects kick in. I have not done that yet.

I have been taking Fucothin as directed: 3 softgels a day for 6 days . My appetite has decreased, and my food cravings have decreased. I have lost 6 lbs in 6 days. I am exercising 4 times a week and that is nothing new for me. I have always exercised. My diet is pretty much the same, just smaller portions. I eat whenever I am hungry. This product is truly amazing. I have no side effects of nervousness like on some of the other products and my appetite has truly decreased and I feel great.
Garden of Life has always made good holistic supplements so when they came out with this I did not hesitate. Try it. It is definately worth every penny.

I started taking Fucothin in mid-Sept 2007 along with my low sodium meal plan & lost 18 pounds effortlessly by Halloween. Skipped it for several weeks over the holidays, and put on 8 pounds!! I just started taking it again less than 2 weeks ago with my low sodium meal plan and lost the 8 pounds - now going forward for the rest of the winter. My energy is noticeably better when taking Fucothin & I have to force myself to eat some days. Drink lots of water & the weight comes off faster. I recommend this product wholeheartedly. Just wish the price was lower, but look for free shipping & it's worth it.
