5 out of 5 stars Huggies vs Pampers   September 9, 2005

Ahh, the ultimate controversy. I feel like I've graduated from college to adult when the hot topic with my friends has changed from 'boxers vs briefs' to 'huggies vs pampers'.

We did stage our own version of the Pepsi Challenge, and purchased Huggies, Papers, Luvs and even some other random brand I found in our local grocery store. Huggies wins hands down. Luvs leaked all the time, and was even kind of scratchy. Pampers was nice and soft, but also leaked. For us, Huggies has never leaked. The elastic bands around the legs fit well, the diapers are soft enough to not bother my son. We've used Huggies from size NB up to 3 so far and have still preferred Huggies in each size range.

Within the Huggies line, I prefer the Ultra-trim (which I guess is being called something else now?) over the Huggies Supreme. The Supreme were extra padded and tended to bunch up. They didn't leak, but they just weren't as comfortable for my son's frenzied activity level.

As for fit, my son has always been small for his age (10th percentile in weight, 60th percentile in height), so I'm not sure if that makes any difference... maybe pampers works better for chunky kids? Which opens up another age old controversy "does size really matter"? But that's a conversation for another day.

5 out of 5 stars Devon is more huggable when he's wearing Huggies!   March 30, 2008

I never dreamed last year that I'd be reviewing baby diapers ... of all things! But God works in mysterious ways and gave our family a brand-new bundle of joy last year ... after fourteen years being without a baby in the family. We never complained, though, because the babies were coming along in "assembly-line fashion" for many years before that "break."

Devon celebrated his first birthday in January and has been a Huggies baby since birth. Being his doting great-Grammy, I never conducted any user-tests, leaving that job for his mother Michelle. After problems with other brands--from leakage to "tearing"--she settled on Huggies.

Our bouncing baby boy weighs 23 pounds so just graduated to size 4; I ordered this package of 126 because his mother is always running out, necessitating hasty, unplanned trips to the store. Since I abhor disorganization, I hoard this package in my closet, doling diapers out one at a time--only when Michelle is completely out. This way there's always something in reserve. The only way it works, though, is when I'm firm with Michelle, not allowing her to use two in a row, forcing her to buy them in a timely manner.

After six children, nine grands and Devon making 3 greats, I should be an expert on diapers, but since there were fourteen years between Devon and his big brother Johnny ... well, I've conveniently forgotten most of what I learned. But I do remember they had only cloth diapers when my children were born and I enjoyed hanging them on clotheslines in the back yard. Blowing in the wind--side-by-side with clean sheets while absorbing the fresh air and sunshine--they actually created a pretty, pleasant picture. There's nothing that smells better than laundry fresh from the line; ask anyone over the age of forty.

Other reviewers have mentioned the best features about Huggies, and since the safety information is listed beneath the product at top of this page, I won't go into that. For me, the best features are that they're disposable and have never "leaked" on my clothing. Woo-hoo!

And being a reviewer who loves kids books and kids movies, I adore the stylish Gigglastic Disney waistband; a splash of color on an otherwise ordinary, yet essential baby garment.

I write this at the risk of other reviewers labeling me the Disposable Diaper Dispenser ... but I can live with that.

4 out of 5 stars good fit for narrow hipped babies   December 12, 2005

When our son was born, he was 8 lbs, 6 oz, and Pampers Swaddlers Newborn fit him very well. After two weeks, the baby was 9.5 lbs and had outgrown newborn size. The Swaddlers size 1 were not a good fit, too low waisted for him and had a leaking problem. The Huggies Size 1 baby shaped with gigglastic waistband had elastic in the back so they were better at containing the contents. Fewer leaks, though still some urine leaks. Never a blowout leak.

The one gripe - the velcro tabs stick to his fleece sleeper sack so occasionally you have to check to make sure the diaper is still secure.

Caution - the diapers appear too small to last up to 14 lbs despite the labeling of 8-14 lbs.

5 out of 5 stars Great Diapers. Here's a little advice.   August 29, 2005

I like Huggies. I also like that I have figured out how to use them. First, you must make sure to "open" the diapers before you start to change your baby. The elastic is folded into the diaper and a gentle tug of your finger will flatten it out. Second, you must make sure that the elastic is not bent inward when you put the diaper on your baby. Follow these two rules and you shouldn't get many leaks. (You may be able to tell that these rules are based upon experience.) Good luck.

Box says diapers will hold up to 15 lbs. We always have to change them long before they get that full.

We'll be adding even more exciting features to assist you in the coming year.
