Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Perfect Pushup puts a new spin on one of the oldest exercises, the pushup. Invented by someone who knows a lot about pushups, former U.S. Navy SEAL, Alden Mills, the Perfect Pushup's rotating handles allow your arms to rotate naturally when you do pushups the same way they do when you throw a punch or press up a dumb bell. This unique feature accelerates results by engaging more muscles in the arms, chest, shoulders, and back. It also helps reduce strain on wrists and elbows, and helps to stabilize and strengthen the shoulder joint by engaging the scapular and rotator cuff muscles. You will notice the comfort and effectiveness of the Perfect Pushup on the very first try! Includes free instructional DVD and full color poster that show perfect form along with a customizable 21 day workout planner based in SEAL 2 minute drills that works for any fitness level - from beginner through Olympic athlete.

5 out of 5 stars Push ups transformed into serious weight training by a deceptively simple device.   May 22, 2007

I lift weights at a gym 3x a week and don't have room for a serious weight setup at home. I have a few dumbbells and medicine balls. I figured push ups would be a way to get the bench press in at home. I ordered Perfect Pushup because doing pushups hurts my wrists and the product looked like a good idea.

First impression - 'hey, it's plastic'! I thought it was going to be metal, based on the pictures. I was disappointed by their lightweight plastic build. Once I started using them, the disappointment turned to appreciation. These transform push ups into serious weight training three ways: 1) Proper wrist angle - means that I can do push ups until muscle fatigue stops me; not sore wrists. 2) Elevated hands means you can go deeper than when your hands are on the floor. This greater range of motion had an unexpectedly large impact. 3) Rotation reduces stresses and brings even more muscles into play. The handgrips rotate freely, forcing you to exert effort to keep your hands oriented. You can feel different muscle groups come into play as you alter your wrist position. The wrist naturally rotates as you move through the pushup motion in different ways depending on how far from your body you place your wrists. It takes a moment to learn how to do pushups this way (the included chart is a good starting point) and rewards some experimentation. Once you've gotten used to Perfect Pushup you will not want to do pushups on the floor ever again. Going back to the floor really shows you how conventional pushups strain the wrist by bending back and punish your elbows by forcing them into a single plane of motion when they naturally want to twist.

Throwing a few sets of these "super push ups" into the mix on weekends has greatly enhanced my home workouts and my overall fitness level. Now that I've used Perfect Pushps for over a month I'm not worried about their durability. They seem quite sturdy in use.

Follow-up: There is some confusion between the two non-travel versions of this product: "Perfect Pushup - Original" (the one sold here and many other places for around $40) and "Perfect Pushup - Basic" (the one sold at Walmart and Ebay for around $20). The Perfect Pushup - Basic has a red stripe under the "Perfect Pushup" logo and the text "Basic" within the red stripe. It has a similar design to the Perfect Pushup - Original but lighter weight plastic build and comes with the handles unattached from the base and you snap them on yourself. I haven't used the "Basic" model - but you can readily see the difference between the models in the photographs: "Original" has a metal handle embedded in a larger, single piece, plastic rotating part. The stanchions holding the handle are molded and of a single piece with the rotating part. The "Basic" model has a lower flatter rotating part, and a plastic handle shaped like a letter "C" - so that the handle itself forms the stanchions connecting down into the rotating part - which is flat and not molded. I don't know if the "Basic" model is compromised in any way as to its function - but it is clearly of a lighter build quality.

Follow up number two: 1 year after purchase: I've continued to use Perfect Pushup 2-3 times a week and it has remained totally reliable and durable in use. The build quality is obviously better than adequate. I continue to prefer Perfect Pushup over doing pushups on the floor - no comparison. Pushups are great exercise, but they need to be viewed in context as part of a larger exercise regimen. You will not lose weight doing pushups alone (weight training is a piece of the puzzle, but aerobic exercise, diet, and mental attitude work are all vital to that effort also). Pushups are not a complete upper body workout - and they are not exactly a replacement for the bench press either. Pushups seem to emphasize arms and shoulders at the expense of pecs a bit. What I mean is that when I work out with pushups to exhaustion, my pecs are not as fully worked out as when I'm using the bench. (I've inherited a bench and barbell from a friend and use it in the basement.) What makes pushups great - and Perfect Pushup in particular - is that they are an excellent upper body workout (one that gets a big part of the upper body if you do a few variations in hand grip position) that takes up virtually no space in your home. A good minimal home gym could be just a pair of Perfect Pushups, a Swiss ball (also known as a Yoga ball), and pair of dumbbells (preferably variable weight ones). Final conclusion - Perfect Pushup is a great way to get an upper body workout in limited space and is part of a home fitness solution but shouldn't be seen as constituting a full fitness regimen in and of themselves.

3 out of 5 stars Good product, but lacks instructions!   June 1, 2007

I've always prefer doing workout without weights, and this does enhance and optimize your push up workouts. The rotating units provides more variety on form and less stress on the wrist. Unit is made mostly with plastic, but feels solid and durable.

BUT, the lack of instructions on this item is VERY dissappointing. It comes with a foldout sheet consisting of some 6 basic forms. There is a DVD that you can purchase for $15 that supposively shows you different usages with the unit. That's nuts! How can a product be sold with its full instructions SOLD SEPERATELY! I do like the product very much, but this is the kind of scheme that as a consumer, find very distasteful and somewhat ripped off.

Good product, but unfortunately, I can't support this company's policies. This will be the last product I will be purchasing from this company.

5 out of 5 stars good product   December 15, 2006

I don't go to a gym, so I own a lot of different kinds of fitness equipment. I know that most made for TV products are superfluous at best, and usually are just useless. However, this a great product. Well-made of sturdy materials, it lets you perform pus-ups the natural way (it allows for your hands to rotate). Everyone knows that push ups is a great exercise, however, most people don't enjoy doing them. This product can help get motivated, plus they offer nice customer service support.

Well, this is not some miracle product that is going to turn you into a bodybuilder, but, if you think its going get motivated, buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Really does take push-ups to a whole new level!   July 12, 2007

Our son is in excellent shape and push-ups are a part of his usual routine. But this simple product, designed by a Navy Seal, really does make the usual push-up more challenging and allows the user to vary his or her routine quite a bit. By the way, you can find free workouts online for this, at various video sites, or you can buy one of the DVDs or cards listed below.
One warning: Because this DOES allow your arms to rotate, you might consider having someone "spot" you the first time, as I've seen inexperienced users lose their balance or have their arms collapse. This is a rarity and should NOT happen if you are in control of your body, have decent balance and are used to push-ups.

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT purchase through Amazon, see below   December 6, 2007

Do not purchase through Amazon. Body Rev, the seller, is misrepresenting the product. If you purchase the perfect push-up through a store (i.e. Dicks Sporting Goods) you will pay the same price and receive an instructional DVD and workout chart with the package at no extra charge. I just spoke to Amazon, save yourself some time, go to the store instead. In no way is this review giving the product itself a 1 star, do not buy from this seller.
