The elegant Sharp AQUOS D4U Series enhances the decor of any family room, living room or den. With a true 16:9 aspect ratio, HDTV resolution of 1366 x 768, Sharp's Emmy award-winning LCD technology and breathtaking color purity, it is a next-generation TV to carry you into the high definition future. 5 out of 5 stars Sharp rocks   December 14, 2005

I spent months researching whether to buy plasma or LCD, deciding which size screen would best suit our needs, and which brand offers the best value/quality. Hands down, the Sharp Aquos line of LCDs is the best choice. Initially planned to buy the LC-32DA5U, but finally opted to spend a little more for the D4 series, which comes in black casing instead of silver, has enhanced sound quality (BBE and surround sound), a more advanced tuner, and a digital card slot. There is no better quality picture in the LCD line than Sharp.

While many flat panel owners note that non-digital channels don't look so great, the Sharp tuner handles the lower channels very well, with a minimum of distortion.

Buy the Sharp if you can, at least the DA5U series, and if you can spring for a couple hundred dollars more, get the 4U series. You will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent TV   February 27, 2006

After much research, decided on this TV. Amazon had the best price ($300 less than Circuit City and Sears). Shipment arrived on schedule and TV is amazing. Love the black cabinet color. Cable Card worked, but much slower at changing channels than the HD Cable Box so am not using it.

5 out of 5 stars Love this TV   December 22, 2005

After months of admiring various flat panel hd tv's we finally bit the big one and bought one for Christmas. After looking at several models we decided that Sharp had the best picture quality and the best defination (8000:1) for the price. It is also cable card ready and the black panel is dynamite when hung on the wall. It looks very sleek and classy. It tends to sell out quickly so you may have to have it shipped in from another store or order one but you won't be sorry you waited.

2 out of 5 stars Sharp Aquos has quality issues   June 16, 2006

Original message from June 2006:
Bought Sharp Aquos, loved it - great picture, sound. However, it died in one week. It would turn off by itself occassionally, and then a couple of days later it died for good. Only a flashing LED.

Looked on the internet for problems with Aquos, and saw a whole slew of people have issues. It dies for more than one reason. Sharp Customer support got me to take it to a local repair shop, and it took 4 WEEKS to get it fixed. Very frustrating experience. Brand new TV sitting at a repair shop for 4 weeks. There were several other Aquos (different sizes, models) sitting in the shop.

Once it was fixed, the picture and everything looks great. Based on what I gathered from various other reviews on different sites, it is a great design, but Sharp has quality issues. Don't know what percentage of the TV suffer the "infant mortality".

Update (Nov 5,2006)
In Sept, the TV started acting up again. In October, it died again for good. Sharp has agreed to exchange it with, I am assuming, a new set. Currently waiting on the replacement.

5 out of 5 stars Sharp impresses with this TV   January 20, 2006

I may be a Toshiba guy when it comes to TV's but it changed when I saw this one. Sharp makes the best LCD's and I can see why. They are straight forward with their design and the awards back them up. The truth is in the panel. Sharp has a good thing going with this and their other models such as the 5U as well. I was lucky and acquired this bad boy for $1290 because I am a pimp but for the money (which is important) and for the value... no flat panel seems to compete. I only review what I fervently like so this by far gets a 5 star rating. Go to your local electronics store (go to Best Buy and see how overpriced it is) and check this TV out and you'll be impressed. I warn you though that if you see it in person you'll probably end up wanting to buy it and leaving with it. While they can be on short demand... it is worth it to get your hands on one.
