The IH9, nearly perfect April 23, 2008 Kevin Dorff (New York, NY USA) 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
I have a couple minor complaints with the iHome IH9, let's get those out of the way. First complaint: the AM reception, even with the external antenna isn't great. With the antenna it is "OK" but without the antenna it is non-existent. My previous inexpensive AM/FM clock radio (with digital tuner) did a much better job with AM. Second complaint: I wish the volume wheel & adjustment wheel (top left, top right) were "grippy-er". Laying in bed they are kind of hard to turn. Finally, with the iPod sitting above the clock it seems a touch funky and fragile, but I think it is probably fine - almost all the iPod clocks have this EXACT same design, so, I am just paranoid. Now, for the things I like. The sound is really good. I don't think it is an "auto-set" clock, but it came from the factory already set. Keeps good time (so far). Readout is super easy to read. There are 7 brightness settings to the display, including OFF, and it fast and easy to switch between them. The fall asleep to (radio/ipod/line-in) is great, the dual alarms to (buzzer/radio/ipod/ipod-playlist/line-in) is great. The fact that either alarm can be 7-day, 5-day (weekday), or 2-day (weekend) is fantastic. The remove is somewhat useful, I guess - haven't used it much. It is a touch pricey, I paid $90 - but I really love the features and sound. No plans to return it.
great product December 1, 2007 Melanie M. Turso 28 out of 31 found this review helpful
The sound on this is great. I love having the opportunity to wake up to music. The only thing about buying this on Amazon is that it is more expensive. I found it on the iHome website for $99.
My IH9 experiences January 1, 2008 M. Perham (Austin, TX United States) 22 out of 29 found this review helpful
Rather than a glowingly positive review, I thought I would point out some shortcomings I've found in my use of the IH9 in the past week. You can judge for yourself if they are important points to you: * The system does not support separate speakers so there is no real stereo separation. This will not fill a room with sound. * The sound is good for 2" speakers but it's still 2" speakers... * The FM radio is not very sensitive. I listen to three radio stations in Austin and the IH9 only picks up one of them, the worst performer of any FM receiver I've used in my house. * The FM antenna is hard-wired so you cannot provide a better one. This wouldn't be a problem except for the poor FM reception. * The remote is mediocre at best - buttons are not placed intuitively and the remote is symmetric so it's difficult to use in the dark. The display is great, the alarm features well done and the ipod integration very simple but the actual radio and remote still need work.
Great improvement over previous models December 20, 2007 TechGuy 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
iHome has fixed a few oversights in prior models like no radio station presets and the sound is better than the predecessors. The iH9 sounds very good, especially compared to other brands of similar price and fewer features. I echo the first comment - no need to get this through Amazon/TechNG since you can get it directly form iHome (with free shipping) for $30 less. My daughter really likes this unit.
Great sound but problems working with my iPod March 16, 2008 R. Boonstra (Escondido, CA) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
I was initially pleased with this alarm clock because the sound is excellent. However,I soon noticed that when the iPod comes on as the alarm, the buzzer also activates if the music gets too soft! Who wants that?? (I have an iPod Nano 2 GB.) You have to press the snooze button then wait for the music to start again. If the music gets soft again the same thing happens. Several e-mails to iHome's tech support failed to resolve the problem, they kept telling me to update the iPod firmware (it IS up to date), then finally said to send it in for warranty service. Since this would cost $10 I went back to the store and exchanged it for another, but had the same problem. So I will bring that one back too. If you are just going to play your iPod thru the radio without the alarm it's very good, but I bought it to wake to my iPod music (only music!), and so the iH9 is not for me.
