This is pretty good quality! June 21, 2004 Scott Pointon (Crest Hill, IL United States) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
My wife and I purchased this item from a local retailer (for quite a bit less, I might add) and we are very happy with it. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box to find that the carcass was already completely assembled. All I needed to do was mount the drawer and door pulls, attach the knife block to one end and the paper towel bar to the other, and attach the heavy duty casters. All in all, I was done in well under an hour. As for the construction, I am generally happy with how this thing is built. As a woodworker myself, I was not too impressed with the drawer construction (nary a dovetail to be found here) but I realize that hardly any commercially made furniture such as this would offer such a thing these days. I was pleased to see European hinges on all of the cabinet doors, which by the way were adjusted perfectly right out of the box. The finish is good, the stainless steel top was scratch-free, and the casters were very good quality. If I had to find a weak point in this product it would be the "loose" fit of the adjustable shelves, and the fact that there are not more of the shelves included. The shelves are adjusted by moving the shelf pins up and down inside the cabinet (into predrilled holes). This works fine, but there is plenty of space in this cabinet to want or need more than just one shelf in each of the three cabinet sections. Overall though, we are well pleased with this product and would recommend it as a solid choice. Word to the wise though - shop around to get the best price!
breakfast bar May 8, 2005 Noreen (New York City, NY USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My husband ordered the breakfast bar online. We have a big family and it provides additional space we need in the kitchen. We also plan to purchase bar stools to use with the breakfast bar to make our jobs/eating easier. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. The only slight inconvenience was the fact that EVERYTHING had to be assembled. The drawers, the panels of the bar, the gate leg, everything! However, with the help of my 14 year old son and reading the instructions very carefully, we were able to assemble the bar in about an hour and a half. The only additional tool needed was a phillip head screw driver. The bar is sturdy and offers plenty of storage space. I highly recommend this item.
a lot of work to assemble January 4, 2005 M. Cirzan (Naperville, Illinois) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This product does not come preassembled. It is completely unassembled in a tightly packed 147 pound box. Not for the non mechanically inclined. The unit also does not come with european hinges, they are very simple standard hinges (not all that nice). As far as construction, the drawers and doors are fine solid wood. The top is nice, very heavy stainless steel that is impressive. The sides, back and base are various thicknesses of pressed board with hardwood or possibly plastic veneer with hardwood trim. The sides and back are very thin and can be broken as they are about 1/8th inch thick press board, not real wood. Overall it's a mixed bag. Sort of nice (top and front), sort of not (sides, back, hinges and shelves).
