Amazon.com Review Keep your favorite extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar fresher longer in this sparkling crystal cruet set from Luigi Bormioli. The two seven-inch-tall stoppered bottles in the set are identical: each features a graceful neck and subtly curved well, a look that matches both modern and traditional decor. Comfortable to hold, with a good pouring lip, the bottles also clean up easily in the dishwasher. Bormioli, an Italian company renowned for its glassware and environmental sensitivity, designs and produces the Michelangelo line in Parma, Italy of machine-blown, lead-free crystal. Without the lead, the crystalline glass eliminates health concerns about leaching and still exhibits an exceptional clarity, thanks to the high-silica, pure quartz sand used in the manufacturing. Packaged in sturdy, colorfully designed boxes, Bormioli glassware makes gift-giving effortless for a housewarming, wedding, thank-you, graduation, or any singular event. --Ann Bieri

Italian design? Maybe. Italian craftsmanship? Absolutely not! September 27, 2007 Penumbra (Atlanta, GA USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
The description of the Luigi Bormioli Michelangelo Masterpiece cruet set is a thrilling read. Well, fiction is quite often thrilling! As it is, the cruets have a pleasing shape, but the flaws are numerous and obvious. Upon taking them from the box, I was struck by how large they are. For the purpose of putting out salad oil and vinegar for a meal, these are enormous. If they were only a fraction larger, they'd be better suited as wine carafes or decanters. Each cruet is about seven inches tall with a base four inches across. These are going to take up a substantial portion of the table space during a meal. The stoppers are heavy, but they are loose inside the cruets. Therefore, there is not a good seal when the stoppers are in place. Don't put too much oil and vinegar in these oversize bottles; without a good seal, the contents are not going to be kept fresh for anything more than the length of a meal. Less expensive sets usually resolve this issue with a rubberized rim around the bottom of the stopper. More expensive sets have the stopper glass ground down for a tighter, precision fit. The description also mentions the "pouring lip." Mine didn't have a lip at all. A lip should have a smooth edge, as you'd expect in a drinking glass - or even the average glass jar. But run your finger around the mouth of these glass bottles and they feel sharp. The top of the glass neck appears to have been sliced off and shown to a polishing wheel - not in actual contact with the polishing wheel though. If something this simple and basic seems unfinished, I suppose asking for a pinch to have given them a bit of a pouring spout would be ridiculously out of the question. According to the product bullet points these are "imported from Italy". The description elaborates by stating the Luigi Bormioli company "designs and produces the Michelangelo line in Parma, Italy." That may be true of some items in the Michelangelo product line, but the label on the cruet set I received clearly states, in English and French, that THESE are made in China for Luigi Bormioli. Now I'm wondering if the "lead free" claim is false, too? I was expecting something well crafted. This set is a big disappointment.
Very beautiful! January 26, 2007 Sofia Hernandez (Astoria, NY USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
They are very beautiful cruets packaged very well! The tops are made of glass as well. The shape is gorgeous... look like a decorative piece.

I bought four so as to have three kinds of vinegar as well as olive oil on the table. The glass and the shape of the glass, vorh emphasize the colors od rhw xonrwnra, and so it's a very beautiful set on a lazy susan. Minor complaint is that the caps and necks are not tight. I expected a better fit, but by and large that's a minor quibble
