Amazon.com Review This tumbler offers easy-sip, no-spill commuting. Virtually unbreakable, this lightweight, vacuum-insulated thermos travels with you to work or for recreation. On arrival and for hours afterward coffee, tea, or soup will stay hot or lemonade, iced tea, or a sports drink will stay chilled. It's handsome and compact (8-1/2 inches high), plus its 2-1/2-inch-diameter bottom fits most vehicle drink holders. A band of soft, nonslip black rubber encircles the tapered, satin-finish exterior, ensuring a firm grip. The top and bottom are black plastic. The sip-hole cover flips open for no-spill sipping. Fine threading ensures the twist top seals tightly, while the smooth interior cleans with a sponge or cloth. Preheating or prechilling with hot or cold water is recommended. --Fred Brack

Great Tumbler April 21, 2003 Empyreal (LA, CA) 86 out of 88 found this review helpful
I, like many college kids, cannot survive without caffeine of some sort. This tumbler does a great job of insuring that I have hot coffee until I'm done drinking it. Everybody else has commented on its great insulation abilities, but I'd like to add my own experience. I like to have my coffee slightly hot, but not tongue-burning hot. So I always add a couple of ice cubes. Well, I got my coffee to the perfect temperature at 7:30 this morning and headed off to class. I sipped on it all during class and work, and the temperature stayed perfect. When I finished my coffee at 12:30 this afternoon, it was STILL the perfect temperature. Absolutely fabulous. As for the other features: The outside of the tumbler stays cool to the touch, and the rubber bottom keeps it from slipping around. However, because of it's design, it could tip over if you knock against it. So don't plan on putting this on your dashboard or floorboard of your car or anything like that. It is the perfect width at the bottom to fit into most cupholders. The rubber around the middle of the tumblers makes for an easy non-slip grip, and the top screws on easily and tightly. My only complaint is that the snap top for the sipper hole does not "snap." It just kind of closes, but it isn't securely closed. So, don't go putting it in a briefcase or backpack, because it is likely to leak onto your stuff. I havent actually tried this, though (and I don't plan to), so I could be wrong. Although it isn't spill proof if you hold it upside down or on its side, it is spill proof while you drink. THe rim of the lid is much higher than the base of the lid, so it prevents coffee from spilling all over you while you're sipping it (unless you're an extraordinarily untalented drinker). When you flip the top open, you do need to hold it open or it might flip down onto your nose - this happened to me and I wound up having to wipe drops of coffee off my nose. It's super easy to clean - just like any other tumbler. so, overall, I would completely recommend this to anybody who needs a travel tumbler that does keep coffee the perfect temperature. If you need something leak-proof, however, because you plan on putting it into your brief case or something, I would recommend getting a different Nissan thermos.
Excellent Tumbler for Persons on the Go! September 14, 2002 David R. Bess (Charleston, WV) 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
I received this tumbler for my birthday, and it is one of the best presents I have ever been given. I have a couple of the larger, wide-bottomed Thermos mugs, but they are only practical at home or at the office. They simply don't fit into the cup holder of a car. This tumbler holds a generous amount of hot coffee, and keeps it hot for hours. The swinging, snap lid is easy to open and close. It will snap to a fixed, open position as well as to a closed position. With this tumbler, I can leave the house early in the morning with a full container of coffee, sipping from it as I drive my son to school. I can continue sipping on the way to the gym and back. If I have any coffee left, I then take it to the office with me. The portability is simply GREAT. Although I use this tumbler exclusively for hot coffee, it will work well with any hot or cold beverage. It's my favorite Thermos product so far, and is definitely well-worth the price!
Get This Thermos-Stat! March 19, 2006 El Lagarto (Ambler, PA) 22 out of 31 found this review helpful
Pairing sleek, minimalist design reminiscent of Shaker functionality with the austere, almost mechanistic appeal of Germanic techno-chic, this durable and user-friendly thermos delights the eye while delivering on its purpose of keeping hot liquids hot and cold liquids cold. (How it manages to distinguish the difference is one of those great mysteries better left unsolved.) Black matte rubber over brushed aluminum makes for a smart, dressy look equally at home at formal events or the casual ambiance of a Noel Coward revival at your neighborhood art house. Broad, bumpy black rubber band at center assures firm grip, whether you're bicycling one-handed through the Pyrenees or piloting your fishing boat into the teeth of a ruthless nor'easter, with only a fanatical acceptance of fate and a hot thermos of chicken soup to sustain you. Hinged sip-hole cover snaps in place with almost military precision, assuring no unwanted outpourings. Dentilated lid enables sip hole cover to rest far out of live area for maximum convenience and features half-inch deep trough, further safeguarding against overflow and spillage. Lid is threaded and screws down easily for a seal so tight NASA might envy it. I've had mine for nearly a decade and would recommend it unequivocally. One caveat - hand wash, do not run through the dishwasher.
Large enough but not good July 30, 2004 Nullrout (Greater Tampa Bay Area) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I bought this insulated tumbler because of its size. It is large enough to suit to me, but it has some other problems. As mentioned before the lid is really terrible. It screws on securely but it has a flimsy plastic flip piece to drink out of. I would rather have something I can trust not to spill. If you even tilt the container a bit while it's full it leaks around the edges of the piece that flips. Another problem I have is with the rubber seal near the top. Liquid gets under the seal and has a tendency to stay there. I dry it the recommended way (upside down) and it still retains liquid. I make my own cappuccino in the morning to bring to work...if you don't clean this tumbler out IMMEDIATLEY afterwards it will reek to high heaven. It still sometimes stinks after cleanings because of the water/coffee sitting under the rubber seal.
Bacteria grows under both seals July 26, 2004 Steve Pinehurst (Pinehurst, NC USA) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
There are two putty-colored seals on the mug: one under the lid that seals the lid to the body's collar, and another that seals the collar permanently to the stainless steal body. After a year of daily use and washing by hand, both seals hid bacteria underneath. I squeezed a cotton swab along the seals and black, inky liquid seeped out. I used a Water-Pic to squirt water with some bleach under the seals to sanitize them. I have abandoned casual hand washing in favor of my scalding hot dishwasher. I have had occasional minor mouth sores on the inside of my lower lip. I can't definitively blame the mug, but I still have my suspicions that the mug's bacteria might be causing the mouth sores. I'm going through this ordeal because I LOVE USING THIS TUBBLER! ****
