Although the Norpro stainless-steel mandoline slicer can be used without a guard, its blades are seriously sharp, and this guard offers valuable protection for your fingers. Its runners fit around the mandoline's edges so the guard can guide foods smoothly over the blades. Beneath the handle is a spiked plastic disc that grips food--such as a potato or carrot--securely. The guard's handle section is hinged so thick foods can be accommodated beneath it. All stainless steel except for the handle, the guard--like the mandoline--won't react with acidic foods and resists corrosion. Rinse clean under running water. --Fred Brack

If you own a mandoline you also know the dangers that come with it. It's real easy to cut yourself when you are in a hurry while using the mandoline, but the Steel Guard prevents such accidents from happening. For those of you who have cut yourself on the mandoline should invest in this to prevent another painful accident.
