Developed a crack August 20, 2007 J. Hunter (Roseville, CA) 27 out of 28 found this review helpful
I've been a previous owner of a faucet mount PUR filter that lasted for over 4 years before it finally broke. I purchased this particular model thinking that it would also last, but I was disappointed. A couple of months later, it deveolped a hairline crack just below the filter indicator. I thought I just might have accidentally hit the housing, so I purchased the same model again. Well, this same crack appeared, and now I have contacted P&G. I am seriously thinking of purchasing a different brand.
Relatively inexpensive way to filter water May 12, 2006 Thomas Armentrout (Fredericksburg, VA) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I was pleasantly surpised to see just how easily this filter installed on my kitchen faucet. Although I had great tasting water before its installation, I feel better now knowing that the water is "cleaner" than before. There are only two drawbacks that I see, namely, the filter often gets in the way when filling a pot for on the stove, and the replacement filters are not cheap---they each cost about as much as HALF the price of the original filter system. I have had my filter system for a bit more than three months, and the replacement indicator just became visible...time to spend money for a new filter cartridge!
Great water, but poor construction August 31, 2006 Langdon Foss (Colorado Springs, CO) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I've been using this product for almost two years and it's been kind of a rough ride. The water tastes great and the cartridges usually last at least two months for my family, and we drink a lot of water. The problem lies in the construction of the unit itself. I have to replace the little rubber o-ring inside the hinge of the filter unit every two months or so as it begins to tear and allows the faucet to leak considerably. Also, a leak has formed at the edge of the life indicator window, threatening to shoot the user in the abdomen every time the filter is used. The water is great. The cardridges last an acceptable amount of time but are expensive (as are they all.) The construction is somewhat shoddy and you'll want to replace yours within a year or two.
Cost Cost Cost August 25, 2006 E. Adams (Perry, GA United States) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
We have always purchased bottles of water at the Grocer for approx $2.50/gallon at the cheapest (buying in 24 oz bottles.) If you figure the Pure filter at purchase, the price is $0.30/gal. Then the price goes down with the purchase of replacement filters to $0.20/gal or less depending on the quantity purchased at one time (as low as $0.10/gal.) So we bought the 3-stage filter for the faucet and now fill our water bottles and store them in the fridge. We seldom see bargains like this. I trust PUR and the water tastes GREAT! We drink a lot of water. This has DEFINITELY saved us money.
great water, poor design June 30, 2007 L. Reis (Lancaster,PA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought my first PUR faucet mount about 4-5 years ago. It was a vertical mount that lasted about 2.5 years. Since there is a 5 year warranty I called the company and they quickly and graciously sent me a newer version. The sent model was a horizontal mount and supposed to be a slightly better mode. It was great for about 9 months, then the housing cracked and water began running down the sides and spraying out slightly. Again I got a replacement. The second horizontal mount lasted less than 6 months before cracking and water spraying all over. The faucet mount had not been hit or impacted in any way . (I live alone, so I am certain of this.) At this point I decided to just send an email to Pur I emailed the company, asking if they had any products that held up without cracking of the housing because I love the filtration itself. When I got no response in over three months, I sent the email out again, and then I received an email with an apology, and informing me that I would be receiving a coupon by mail. The coupon entitled me to buy any PUR product at PUR's expense. I got another three stage filter system, this time returning to the vertical mount, hoping it would last a couple of years like my first one. It has lasted only a couple of months--through only one filter change--and now every time I turn the water up to a medium flow it shoots out several inches to the right. If I keep the flow slow, the water, instead, runs along the outside of the mount as well as through the mount, mixing potentially contaminated water with the other water. I have tightened the mount and adjusted it, as well. The reality is that the filter portion is pulling away from the mount, allowing some water to leak through the mount and out the side. If I lift the filter up as the water flows, ithe gap is pretty well closed and the water runs more efficiently along its intended course.
