Somewhat useful, but needs improvement. December 1, 2005 T. Hassler 18 out of 20 found this review helpful
This item is cheap enough that if you have a Weber kettle, it will probably be worth it to get one. I like mine, but it could definitely be engineered better. The Good: 1) Convenient place to hang your tools. 2) Cheap as can be, yet constructed of decent quality steel. 3) Holds 4 items, when 3 is probably the most I've ever used at one grilling. The Bad: 1) Any plastic trim on your handles of your tools will likely melt since it sits right next to the heat. Try to keep this away from your starter pile. The same problem can make your tools hot to handle (even my wood handled ones got hot to the touch!) 2) It comes off far too easily when tools get hung up, the kettle is moved, or the lid bumps it too hard. Weber should engineer this to actually "clip" on instead of simply sliding on. I haven't tried clamping down the metal to make it grip better, yet. That may help, but the metal hangers seem too short to lock on permanently. 3) The lid doesn't sit as tightly as it should. 4) The hooks are a bit too close together, so your tools bunch up a little. If it were a little wider it would also make it harder to bump off the grill. It's not that tough to hook it back on when it falls, but it is annoying when it falls off mid-grill, dropping your clean tools on the ground. Weber should design an add-on system for these grills. I see no reason why they couldn't add anchor points to the kettle, even simply extending the handle base to either side so adding on a clip like this or other things like condiment tray, etc. becomes simple. I can't believe it would cost that much to do this even on the basic models. It's a 3, but for the money, I'd recommend it anyway (especially for the MacGyver types).
Works perfectly with slight modification May 6, 2004 B. Lathrope (San Diego, Ca) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The tool holder works perfect on my grill. I saw a lot of reviews complaining about how the thing will fall off or it will prevent the lid from sealing. I see how this can be true, however if you can spare about 3 minutes and have ordinary pliers ready that can be solved.I put the holder on the grill, bent the prongs around the lip of it and have had no problems since. It doesn't move, slide, or fall off and the bent prongs allow the top to close with ease. I don't even have a weber grill, I own a char-broil. If you seriously don't have the capacity to bend a little bit of metal then don't buy it. For the rest of you spened the 4 dollars.
Nice Idea September 17, 2005 Spyce 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
This was a nice idea, but it doesn't work to well if you have the lid holder. Whenever I take the lid out of the holder, the tool holder falls off. I don't really need it, because I have the perfomer which has a built in tool holder on the table, which I forgot about when I ordered this. The tool holder should have some kind of locking clamps on it so they will stay in place. I can see how they would interfere with the lid closing all the way if they are hung off the grill itself and imagine that they don't stay in place when the lid is taken off. I like having the extra set of tool holders so I think I am going to trying clamping them down on the lid holder with pliers.
For Kettles Only! February 17, 2004 6 out of 23 found this review helpful
This tool holder is specifically designed for KETTLE grills. The only mention of this limitation is hidden in the Editorial Review, which I missed. The item costs $3.99. To return the item to Amazon by US Mail is $4.99. Don't make the same mistake that I did!
Does exactly what it's supposed to do. April 19, 2005 Steven (Colorado, USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Now that I finally bought my new Weber grill (One-Touch Silver) and some new Weber tools, I needed something to hold them. I didn't want to hang them on one of my other crappy grills, so I went ahead and bought this handy tool holder. Now, I have read previous reviews on this and people have said that they couldn't get their lid to close, or that the tool holder would fall off. Well, it doesn't take much creativity to realize that you can pinch the tool holder onto your grill with a simple set of pliers. This will take care of both problems. I highly recommend this simple-yet-handy gadget to anyone with a Weber One-Touch grill (except for maybe the One-Touch Platinum, since it has everything you need). It is very easy to use, your lid will still close and you grill-cover will still fit =)
