It's time to move up from the "disposable" $30 B&D January 8, 2006 Manish Laxmikant 243 out of 245 found this review helpful
Update: So far, this toaster oven can keep its five stars. I'm extremely happy with: - The ease of cleaning the bottom tray, cheese, grease and all - The Golden Brown & Delicious toasting of bagels, frozen waffles and bread - The feel of the controls, even though I use medium color toast 80% of the time. - While I have preferred functionality over form, I like the way it looks too. Original review: We use toaster ovens so much -no, never for real baking- but for open face sandwiches, anything where browning cheese is on top, freezer waffles and the like. Almost everything we use drips. Eventually all toaster ovens end up with grease and other solidified crud that bonds to the insides. So, we'd look for deals on the $30 Black & Decker classic toaster oven, buy two, and replace after 7-14 months rather than deep-clean them. I recycle religiously, but the B&D's only lasted about that long with our usage. As did a couple of more expensive TO's. This time we've gone with the $99 Cuisinart. Sorry for that long history above, but I think more people will relate to this experience. Here are the nice points: - Toast seems to take longer than the B&D, but there's a lot of room, and the golden-browning seems to be better and more even. Sourdough, whole wheat, plain white, seeded sourdough and baguette slices all seem to get this rich color that might just be the result of slightly slower toasting. - Toasting freezer waffles is just amazing. Crisp, golden and no burns. Sometimes I like to add butter and honey at the end of the cycle and toast some more, and the results are very very good. - Lots of space, great for that leftover pasta that you can add cream to, cover with cheese and bake over. The base is stable and the rack slides out very easily, holding a ceramic oval dish with ease. - I kept trying to find out the wattage on this oven, one place had 900W (less than the B&D's 1300+ claim) but I haven't found it yet. I took my chances and I'm happy so far. This has two elements on top and two below. I like the results of this placement. - For something you use every day, the controls are very pleasing to use. No cheap clunk at all. Nice heavy feel to the knobs, and an elegant start and stop button. - The door is flat, and the hinges are a bit noisy but again the feel is solid - The top gets hot (it's brushed stainless) and seems to want to expand. But this doesn't bother me. - Built-in spacers are very convenient. The handles on the sides help keep some distance from other things (1/2") and there are bumpers behind to keep space between the oven and the wall. - The interior is very straight, no funky shaping. Perfect and timeless. - The rack is offset from the sides that slide into the toaster, offering a low or high position on each of two sets of rails. We like the upper rail, low position. Four possibilities. If this lasts me three years I'll be very happy and at the same price point as the B&D's (which have become increasingly unreliable lately, toast buttons fail fast). Cleaning seems to be simple, stuff doesn't adhere to the crumb tray much. Cuisinarts are typically overpriced, but so far those I have, have been a great oasis when you've tried a bunch of other appliances that have problems. You eventually get to the point where "value" redefines to something that will feel good to use daily and function flawlessly. If this fails on me, I'm coming back to retract some of those five stars.
nice toaster oven-beware Amazon's shipping March 7, 2006 Recovering Couch Potato (PUYALLUP, WA United States) 103 out of 116 found this review helpful
This is the first time I have had anything but positive words for Amazon's shipping. Amazon will ship this product to you in a box barely bigger than the Cuisinart box, with insufficient padding to protect it in transit. I had one and then a second arrive with the plastic housing cracked at the upper front edges. Amazon would not ship a third oven. Apparently they start to consider you an "unsatifiable customer" after two tries and will only offer a refund. I had to strike a deal to accept the cracked toaster at a reduced price. The toaster itself, is highly recommended. It works well and is shiny and beautiful sitting on my counter, though CRACKED! I recommend the product- but go pick it up at a store.
a great buy February 2, 2006 KT (Berkshires, MA) 45 out of 51 found this review helpful
in general i love Cuisinart products, so despite a really bad experince with their toaster/broiler/convection oven we decided to try this then when we got tired of our toast only toasing on one side. it's a great toaster! we use it daily and have no issues with it. it even toasts the underside of the bread--imagine that! in shopping around, i found that there are 2 things other toasters do that i wish this one did: 1. it has tephlon walls and floor inside, but the tray is not--which seems silly to me. 2. i wish the oven wrack came out when you open the door as others do. it makes it so you don't have to reach in and grab it (and get burned like i often do because i am in a hurry) and rather the action of opening the door brings the wrack with a little. it's a great buy, though.
Even a non-kitchen guy likes it February 8, 2006 John Bollow (Chicago) 43 out of 46 found this review helpful
My new wife and I snagged one of these with some wedding returns. At first I was put off by $99 price tag. Then I saw what else was out there: clunky doors. Busy lettering messing up designs. Bad quality. Cuisnart gets it right. There's three knobs, just how God meant them -- one for temperature, one of function, one for toasting -- simple. Classy. No-nonsense. I even broiled left-over steak in it, me, the kitchen nuisance. The door is sturdy. The design will never go out of style. And I have a feeling I'll be doing pizza's from Trader Joe's in it when I'm an old man. Buy it.
Door Hinge don't allow proper closing- being returned October 29, 2007 SLS (Cherry Hill, NJ) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1AJQ906HETU8E To whomever is watching this video - we had this for a total of 3 mths and around month 2 it started giving us door trouble - month 3 the door has major trouble and you must hold it shut for 10-15 seconds before it catches. Nonetheless the toaster is on its way back and another one is being purchased.
