not practical January 6, 2008 Maryann Novak (Florida) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
The color and design are beautiful. I assumed it could be used on the stove top, and I was wrong. According to the Amazon description it is microwave safe, but the included instructions state that it cannot be used in the microwave. It can be used at a 325 degree or less oven temperature. If it was microwaveable I would have kept it. It would look great for serving, but I have little storage space. I try to purchase items that can multi task.
Beautiful, but . . . . January 11, 2008 EP (Athens, Georgia) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
This is a beautiful bean pot, but I was disappointed to discover it is oven safe only to 325 degrees. Nonetheless, its sunny yellow color and generous size are nice, and for the price, I'll keep it. I will probably use it more as a serving piece than for actual food preparation.
It's pretty bu useless for Mexican cooking January 4, 2008 Helen Thrill (Northern California) 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
You can't cook with this on direct heat, either on a stove nor grill. So you'll have to use it as a serving bowl or use the oven, the least Mexican way of cooking beans. And why is a Mexican bean pot made in China?
bean pot January 1, 2008 Gail Mongeon (Burlington VT) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I love the color of this Bean Pot. I only received 2 weeks ago so have not made beans but they are soaking as I type. I especially like the fact that the top of this pot is so wide. The traditional Bean Pot is so dark because of the narrow top that it makes for a truly hard cleaning but this is bright and beautiful. A truly sunny piece of pottery to be added to my kitchen. clicked wrong button a real "5"
This is NOT a BEAN POT! March 22, 2008 Deanna (Golden Triangle (South Texas)) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
I lived in Mexico for over 8 years. I learned to cook there from REAL Mexican cooks, not wannabes like Bayless. A BEAN POT in Mexico is for the STOVETOP! Shame on Rick Bayless, he's spent enough time in Mexico to know better. I almost bought this and then saw the reviews. WHO IN MEXICO makes beans in the oven? No one I ever met! Not Diana Kennedy, not Marilyn Tausend or any of the other true EXPERTS in Mexican Cuisine. Bayless' books are awful and apparently so is his 'cookware'. Rick Bayless, eres un SINVERGUENZA!!
