Quality product, spices are very fresh July 2, 2008 Angela Clark (AZ USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This Kitchen Aid spice rack looks very good in our Tuscan style kitchen. I was worried that it would be too modern for us, but somehow it blended in nicely. The most important thing thought - spices are very fresh. It's a quality product. Also, you don't have to unscrew the lid in order to use spices, just press on one side of the lid and another will pop up, which is very convenient.
great product July 2, 2008 A. Barsano 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
product fits great in the kitchen and leaves me with more space in my cabinets.
Beware this plastic junk July 3, 2008 hillcountrygirl (Austin, TX) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Contrary to my other Kitchen Aid accessories, this item is not chrome but plastic tinted grey to LOOK like chrome. My original idea was that it would look nice with my brushed aluminum appliances but of course in comparison it just looks like the cheap plastic piece of garbage it is. The industrial design is not good either, as the square base cannot be pushed square against the counter top as then it can't rotate. The bottom has a non-skid surface so when I tried to slide it out from the back of the counter top so it could rotate, instead the entire frame fell into pieces. I didn't even have to get the spices out to know this thing is the worst. It's also way too tall to hide out in the pantry shelves. Avoid.
Good sized jars, decent design July 18, 2008 R. Harvey (Michigan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Let me say up front that I'm not unhappy with this purchase given my intentions for it and expectations of it - I bought it knowing the disadvantages since I had examined this rack at a store some weeks before. For my purposes, it is ideal. For someone looking for a quality spice rack, not so much. One reason I purchased this rack is because of the size of the jars. You won't feel like you're unable to store an appropriate quantity of spice in each. Personally, I was not interested in or impressed with the quality of the spices. I had my own - it was the jars I wanted. The rack is entirely plastic and does not do a very good job of mimicking the brushed stainless it is supposed to appear like. This won't match your other brushed stainless appliances if that is important to you. As with most commercial spice racks available, this has the same standard drawback - spices are not meant to be stored where they are exposed to light. While the design of this rack does cut back on some of the light exposure, it will decrease the "life" of your spice's quality because of the clear glass jars unless you take other steps. With all that said, there are some major pluses to this rack which are important if you are something of a spice snob. One - in addition to the generous size, each jar is shipped with the dispensing lid which contains the name of the spice, and they're nicely functional for pouring/sifting. Those lids are packed separately from the bottles, because the bottles have a snug snap-on plastic disk keeping them tightly closed. We dump out the included spices, put in our own, snap that plastic disk back on and then screw on the dispensing lid - because we're not actually using the dispenser. This keeps the spices fresh and secure from humidity. Two - spice names are large enough to be legible making it easy to find the spice you want. You can also scrub off those names and make your own labels which is very important if you're like me and use several racks to store a multitude of spices. Three - the rack rotates nicely on its base and doesn't require a lot of counter space to rotate. Four - it is a counter space saving design and size. Five - and this is where it is important for spice snobs - it is the perfect size/height to be covered by a cloth standard blender/food processor appliance cover. This will keep your spices from being degraded by the light. We have three spice racks total to store all the different spices we use. We'll be replacing the other two with this rack design because, for our needs, it is ideal. For the price, and the flexibility of how it can be used to TURN IT INTO a quality storage rack, it is ideal. So for us, this would be a five-star rating, given our intentions. For most buyers looking for a good spice rack "as is," it earns no more than three stars.
Spice Rack July 29, 2008 Linda K. Wedge (Spencerville, IN USA) The Kitchenaid 20 jar spice rack in red was beyond nice. It is a deep red so goes with many things, has really nice size jars full of spices with a choice of lids. I have had more then one person ask me where I found such a nice spice rack and people were shocked at the price!!! Way cheaper then just buying the spices... this product get A+ from me.
