4 out of 5 stars Great way to help children understand money.   January 10, 2007

I got this for my oldest three children ages 11, 8, and 7 as a gift from Santa along with an opening "balance". The children loved the idea of having to write checks and now when they want something they can write their "bankers"(aka Mom and Dad) a check and we will buy it. So they are learning that once it's spent its gone, so are trying to decide should they save or spend. Since they have no actual money its not burning holes in pockets or getting lost. They are actually thinking about diffrent things and when we say get your check book the re-think the decision about wheather they really want it or not. I'm hoping it not only keeps them from "borrowing" from one another but make sure they really want what they buy, so it's not stuck in the toy chest within the week.
Would have given more stars but it's to early to tell how this will work in the long run.

3 out of 5 stars It's cute   January 11, 2007

I bought this for my 5 1/2 yr old. He always wanted to write in mommy's real checkbook. It cute and I think Learning Resources products are always good quality. But the checks are paper and they would end up all over the house and just get thrown out... then what do you do? I guess you could buy refills it they sell them. The pen and calculator are nice quality

The checkbook package was opened. No pieces were missing. But It was hard to glue the plastic to the cardboard to give it as a Christmas gift.

5 out of 5 stars Looks like an actual checkbook.   January 19, 2007

It was my daughter's favorite gift. It was probably the least expensive
of all her gifts. She loves to pretend play...

bought this for my 10yo son to teach him about money and how to keep track of it, and later how to write checks....he hates it and is NOT thrilled with it.
Good luck if you buy it.
