Product Description A swivel peeler & paring knife / Soft, comfortable, non-slip, Good Grips handle / Stainless Steel / Dishwasher Safe / Color - Black
Amazon.com Review For peeling a Granny Smith apple or a fruit with a tougher skin, the swivel peeler by Oxo is an essential tool. Its rotating, flexible stainless steel blades contour to almost any surface. It's got an oversize handle opening for hanging storage, and its built-in potato eye remover lets you carve out blemishes without digging. The blade size and excellent handle make the paring knife equally essential. With a sharp, tapered stainless-steel blade, it's designed for smaller jobs, slicing through fruits and paring vegetables with ease. The Good Grips line features durable, nonslip flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably and softly, the pressure-absorbing processed rubber handle puts less tension on the hands, while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material as dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, as well as dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro

A Bargin, But Must Quickly Replace August 16, 2002 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
OXO has been distinguished due to their dramatic and ergonomic handles that give the user a solid grip. For the price shown on this site, you're getting two average quality products with a nice handle. I am a personal chef, and in my years of working I have had the opportunity to buy and use several different brands including Henkels (from Germany), Wusthof, Sabatier, and Cutco, in addition to many "bargain" brands including OXO. To speak frankly of the product, I have been very disappointed. The blades are constructed of a stainless steel, which dull very quickly. Stainless Steel is the softest metal used in knives. Second, like another user mentioned, they don't do well in dishwashers. Third (and most important), the paring knife is dangerous. In using the paring knife, I found that the handle was too big for my hand. Also, the grip is not a consistent grip or designed ergonomically. I found it very difficult to get a stable hold on the knife while I was using it, and, consequently, had several accidents with it. OXO knives and other products are a bargain, but you will pay for it in the long run because you'll continually need to replace them. Buying these products is not a deal - they need to be replaced quickly because of their wear. Invest your money in a higher quality set of knives.
Durable and Well-Designed May 8, 2000 M. Luke (Maryland, USA) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is the best peeler/parer you can buy. The large, rubbery handle makes it easy to hold, without slipping. My OXO peeler/parer has lasted me for many years of almost daily use.
OXO Rocks-O April 28, 2000 Richard Wells (Seattle, WA USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I am consistently amazed at the high quality and low price of all the OXO kitchen products. Though I like heftier knives, this peeler is the best. The only caveat is that it takes a little getting used to the "direction of peel" - towards you, but once you do get used to it (a couple of carrots should suffice) you'll never go back to the classic at your mother's house.
One Heck of a Kitchen Set...Just Avoid the Diswasher! November 29, 2000 njbookworm (New Jersey) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this set when I first moved into my apartment, as I've been a fan of the Good Grips products for a while now. This set is absolutely indespensible, as I use these tools almost every day.Peeler: This is wonderful for peeling potatoes, as the easy-to-grip handle and swivel blade help you to comfortably maneuver around bumpy and slippery surfaces. Knife: Since purchasing the set 4 months ago, my knife has stayed incredibly sharp and is able to cut through everything from crunchy carrots to smooshy tomatoes. Here's why the set didn't get the "5" rating: The pair should be hand washed and *not* put in the dishwasher. The knife got a tad rusty after running it through a cycle. Note: This was easy to correct with a Brillo pad and a little elbow grease. However, I don't think you should let this "diswasher drama" sway you from purchasing this set, as the benefits *far* outweigh the limitations.
disappointing peeler! May 1, 2001 G. Ronzani (Beijing, China) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The paring knife has proved quite good, but I cannot find strong enough terms to express my disappointment in the peeler. I can't understand all the recommendations. It requires an undue amount of pressure to peel at all, digs chunks out of the vegetable and doesn't peel smoothly. It feels as though I've used a rather dull knife instead of a highly recommended kitchen tool. Even my small crew of teenage peelers have opted to use our old one from the grocery store. It has no curved edge to remove eyes and although the handle is very comfortable, it is otherwise useless.
