Product Description Salter 1004 Stainless Steel Electronic Kitchen Scale
Amazon.com Review Complementing kitchens with stainless steel appliances, this simple yet modern scale is so cleanly designed that the entire top surface is the weighing platform. Measuring 7-1/2 inches square by 1 inch in height, the slim scale slips neatly into a drawer or cupboard or even stores verticallybut it's attractive enough to leave out on the counter. Food and other items can be weighed in a bowl or directly on the stainless-steel platform, which hygienically resists staining and flavor carry-over between weighings. The add-and-weigh function conveniently allows different ingredients to be added one after the other into the same bowl by pushing the on button in-between each ingredient. Measurements read digitally in precise 1/8-ounce increments for the first 5 pounds, then in 1/4-ounce increments up to 11 pounds. When switched to metric, the scale weighs in 2-gram increments up to 2 kilograms, then 5-gram increments up to 5 kilograms. Like all of Salter's electronic kitchen scales, this one features a high precision strain-gauge weight sensing system, low battery indicator, and auto zero function. Salter includes two long-life lithium batteries and covers the scale with a 10-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Good scale with some caveats February 5, 2006 meow (Boston, MA) 41 out of 43 found this review helpful
I bought this for the simple design, ability to store upright to save counter space, and the ease of switching between oz. and grams with a button on the front (unlike the Soehlne that was rated best by Cooks Illustrated). That said, the scale is so small that it's sometimes difficult to read the display. Also, it's not terribly accurate. If you want to test it, try weighing 10 quarters. They should total 2 oz. Mine read 1 3/4 oz. If you need super precision, this is not for you. I especially like the conversion between grams and oz. I use a lot of international recipes that use the metric system.
Good kitchen scale, not for precision weighing July 10, 2006 mcenut (Tooele, UT) 38 out of 38 found this review helpful
Bought the Salter 1004 Digital Kitchen Scale a few months back and have used it to weigh everything from food to a pine wood derby car. While it's not accurate beyond one quarter of an ounce, it is accurate enough for weighing sliced carrots for a stir fry. So if you are looking for a scale to weigh gold dust, look at another model. The auto zero function is by far the best loved feature of this scale. You place the bowl on the scale first, press the on button and then toss the food being weighed into the bowl. It couldn't be simpler and there is proprietary bowl that constantly needs cleaning before the next use. The easy to clean stainless steel surface makes the scale something always ready for use. And the fact that you can store the scale vertically means it can be stored in that unused space between the wall and another kitchen appliance. Which saves tons of space on the kitchen counter without making the scale something so hard to get to it is never used. While it's not the cheapest scale on the market, this feature rich model is well worth its price tag. Treat is with care and it will be the last kitchen scale you will ever need to buy.
Accurate weighing with ease. October 6, 2005 J. Fisher (Arizona, United States) 32 out of 33 found this review helpful
I chose this Salter scale because the smooth surface allows for more room to weigh food. Also, there are no edges to impede the use of a bowl. I haven't been disappointed!! It is superslim, lightweight, and easy to clean. You can choose between grams and ounces, zero out when you are using a container, and it turns off automatically. My favorite feature is the ability to add or subtract food while weighing - perfect for ensuring that my portions are the right size!
Form and Function in One Package March 14, 2006 Darrin Johnson (California) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
The Salter 1004 11-Pound Square Stainless-Steel Digital Kitchen Scale is one of those appliances that you are delighted to leave out on the counter. The scale has a small footprint, stylish design and cool stainless steel construction. Functionally it is simple to use with a push of a button (or two if you want to switch between grams and ounces) with a clearly visable LCD display. Make sure you have some stainless steel cleaner to make clean up of spills a breeze. This scale is a form and function dream over the clunky mechanical scales. Well worth the premium.
Old scale died; Customer Service's SERVICE. February 9, 2007 D. Shelton (Prairie Village KS) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Salter/Taylor Co.: Great folks to do business with; after 5 or 6 years, Salter 6055 died under 10year warranty. Customer service new pho. 866-843-3905 (Google 'salterhousewares'); super pleasant, cooperative, efficient. 6055's are "out of production" so they're sending a 1004, very similar mechanically, without any hassle.
