Mugs are great, Amazon is awful January 14, 2008 Mulling It Over 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
I ordered these mugs. They arrived broken. I contacted Amazon, and Amazon apologized. They told me not to return the broken glasses, probably because glass shards are not really useful to anyone and might hurt people in the returns warehouse. Amazon then helpfully sent out a replacement order, overnight express. The next part is where Amazon gets schizo on me. Weeks later, I get an email from Amazon informing me that they haven't received my return (duh, they told me not to return it. I still have the email). Amazon cheerfully informs me that if they don't get the original order back, they're going to yank money out of my bank account. In a perverse twist, their email didn't include any reply-to address. I had to wade through the Amazon web site to find a place to contact them. I explained the situation, quoted their original email, and asked if they'd still like their shards of glass back or not. It's been over a month, and no reply to my message. It gets better. I get another email from Amazon. "Great," I think to myself, "They finally got around to responding." Hah, not even close. No, the next robot-generated email from Amazon just explains that they still haven't received the return from the original order (the one they told me *not* to return). This being the case, they're now helping themselves to money from my bank account. I was about to vomit with rage at this point. I bit my tongue and wrote another message via the support section at the Amazon web site (again including obvious details like the original order number, etc.) It's been two weeks and no reply. I was floored. Amazon is either completely clueless and is dropping support requests on the floor, or they're maliciously ignoring my requests for help so they can keep my $29.95. Those are my options: Amazon is either incompetent or malicious. Sigh. I wouldn't be surprised if this was some shady retailer, but this was Amazon that I bought from. I've done tons of business with here, but this is such an appalling pattern of errors, failures, and lack of attention that I am going to have to cancel my account. So don't buy these mugs, or anything else from Amazon.
Fantastic product October 30, 2007 Jakub Z (Arlington, VA) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
The mugs are great but are quite fragile. The biggest issue is having them arrive safely. I ordered 2 sets of 2 mugs and 3 of the 4 mugs were NOT broken. Unfortunately, both mugs in the replacement box were damaged. I'm on my third attempt to receive at least one more unbroken mug before I send back two boxes of broken mugs. I will be buying these at a local retailer if the third attempt fails.
I ordered mugs. I received a box of broken glass and a nasty cut. October 29, 2007 Ro M (New York, USA) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Though I'm not surprised, I am disapointed and my hand hurts. The most enjoyment I can get out of the product is the lovely image on the box, however inside the box, I received many shards of glass. I can't return the package to Amazon since there is now blood on it... For the irritation I feel, it's tempting, but that's just not nice. This product seemed great in theory, but I would discourage a purchase. After reading other reviews, apparently, if you look at these glasses the wrong way, they shatter. If you think your purchase will be the exception, as I thought, well I advise you also invest in some Band-Aids and Neosporin.
too fragile November 25, 2007 Eskay 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Great idea, but the items came broken in pieces. Packaging seemed to be done in haste and poorly packed, so the second set Amazon sent me also was broken. I gave up and asked for refund. The oter Bodum glasses are better, as they do not have handles.
Nice mugs - but they need better packaging from Amazon February 1, 2008 Timothy B. Dereg (Redmond, WA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I like the look and feel of these mugs. My morning coffee looks like it's floating in mid-air, although I can't say that it stays hot any longer than in any other type of glass/ceramic mug. The glass itself is so thin it's like drinking out of a Christmas ornament, so although borosilicate glass is supposedly highly resistant to sudden changes in heat, I am not about to try running these through a dishwasher. And like just about all other reviews, I received a broken mug in my package of two. But unlike other people's experience, Amazon was quick to send out a replacement set (kudos to Amazon! - perhaps they're getting good at sending out replacements on this product). One mug was also broken in the replacement package, so it took Amazon sending me two packages of two mugs apiece in order for me to get an intact set of two. Amazon needs to pay better attention to how they package these things. Their shipping boxes have plenty of room to protect these mugs from impacts on all four side, but they aren't deep enough to protect these extrememly fragile mugs from impacts to the top or bottom.
