Stainless Steel Travel Tumbler - 14 oz / 0.4 L

In terms of its ability to keep hot things hot and cold things cold, I'm utterly impressed. Following the directions for prewarming with hot water, I've had freshly brewed coffee burn my mouth more than 4 hours after being placed in the mug (geographically, Houghton Michigan to Mackinaw City Michigan, USA was my test run area). I suspect if I'd not opened the mug up to drink anything, it would have kept hot for a good deal longer (but I'm a coffee addict, so I haven't been able to wait any longer to test this theory). If you're going to make tea, consider making some using the no-string bags instead of the standard string-attached bags. It's possible to brew your tea with the string still on, but it's a little tough to screw the lid back on with it hanging out and to be honest, it opens you up for a second source of leakage. There's no metallic aftertaste in what you drink, a frequent problem with cheaper mugs, and the taste of your drink doesn't linger in your mug after proper cleaning. If your spouse doesn't like coffee but you do, you can easily share this mug without residual flavors leaking in to whatever you're drinking.

I only have three complaints about this version of the Nissan mug, and two are about the latching mechanism. First, the flip-latch leaks a bit. I like the fact that the flip-latch is easy to open and close with one hand. It's very useful if you're in the middle of negotiating rush hour while driving a manual transmission automobile. However, other mugs offer a sort of pressure-related leak-proof seal. This one does not and the flip-latch results in leakage if the cup tips over while you turn or if it somehow manages to fall on its side. The leakage isn't much, to be honest, but it's enough to require cleanup.

My second latch complaint is personal. If the liquid sloshes inside my mug and there's a small amount on the flip-latch when I open it to take a sip, I invariably end up wearing a small dot of liquid on the end of my nose. It's not a horribly long nose or even oddly shaped, but the latch touches it just enough that I sometimes look rather foolish if anyone is watching me drink.

My third complaint is about the shape of the cup. Aesthetically the design is very pretty and the brushed aluminim easy to clean, doesn't show fingerprints, and is darn near scratch proof if you don't drag it along rough pavement. However, the bottom of the mug doesn't fit into any cup holder in my car. It fits well enough in my truck cup holder. But in my car, it's just big enough that the stable, non-slip base padding makes it just a bit too large to fit. I end up wedging the cup between my legs while driving or setting it on the dashboard and praying I don't have to make any sudden movements or sharp turns. A slightly narrower bottom would fix this problem quite handily.

Wishfully thinking, I would have liked to see this mug have a handle. The middle grip strip is very nice and the whole mug feels comfy in your hand, but I like the choice of a handle. And as luck would have it, Nissan has another model with just such a feature. If you like a handle on your mug, consider getting that model instead. I'll be sticking with mine for a little while longer, though.

Why would I spend $32 on a Nissan Travel Tumbler when cheaper knock offs abound? Because this handsome travel tumbler is worth every penny. I've used my tumbler every day for the last three years. To this day, I appreciate the way it's crafted. Its snug-fitting lid ensures against any leakage. That's good news for those of us who like to arrive at work without wearing our coffee. And talk about superior insulation. This tumbler keeps my coffee hot even after my 50-minute commute to work! I also love its sleek and classy appearance. The satin finish gives it a great smooth feel, and there's a non-slip grip so you don't drop it. In case you do though there's no need to worry. I've dropped mine accidentally a few times, but it still looks and works great. This tumbler is for anyone who wants a top quality product.

I have owned four of these marvelous coffee mugs over the years (I keep losing them in places I have been to! Ooops!) and let me tell you, nothing else on the market comes close. Have a hot drink such as coffee? The mug keep s hot to warm for HOURS! Cold drink? Ditto. One time I went wine tasting for the day. I made my normal cup 'o joe at 8:00 in the morning, drove out to the vineyards sipping on it the whole way. By 1-2 PM, a time when most mugs would be dispensing disgusting, cold coffee, this little baby still gave me VERY warm coffee. Wasn't a hot day outside either so the interior temperatures in the car were not a factor. It just works better than the competition. I recently tried two other stainless steel travel mugs. One leaked and the coffee went cold in less than three hours. The other didn't drip but the coffee went cold in about 21/2 hours. So, I went to Amazon.com and bought myself another one. What a treat! Three hours into my day and the (remaining) coffee is still hot. Don't waste your time with others, just buy it!

Nothing worse than your fresh morning coffee turning tepid on the way to the office. Even worse is the small amount of liquid from the cup's opening dribling down onto your new tie. Well rest assured those problems are solved by this mug. So far, my coffee or tea (if I'm feeling yuppie) have been kept nice and hot for at least 30 minutes. Plus no trips to JCPenney or Fields for a new tie. It fits great in my car as well as our van's standard cup holder. It has been the best travel mug I have used so far. I would recommend this mug to anyone who takes pleasure out of their morning brew on the commute to work. Plus it's got a 5 year warranty. You can not put it in the dishwasher, but it cleans easily with a little soap and hot water. Recommended.

I bought my Nissan mug at the end of 1996, when I started biking to work every day. It's suffered a couple of dents as a result of popping out of the old bike's water bottle cage a few times. An ex-girlfriend borrowed the mug and absentmindedly ripped the rubber sleeve off, so for years I just had a bare steel mug (which stays in the water bottle cages better). A year ago I was riding in a bus shuttle to a client's office and found a new rubber sleeve, so now my mug is complete again.

I've had the same issues as everyone else: the flip lid can leak even when closed (especially on bumpy pavement), it collects coffee in the little thing on the lid so you end up with a dot of coffee on your nose, and it doesn't fit in most car cupholders.

All of this gets mitigated, though, when you consider that as long as you don't melt the lid, one of these things should last you a *very* long time. So much better for you and the planet than disposable coffee cups.
