From a song writers point of view. June 27, 2008 All Powerful Wizard Of Oz (Oz, far far away) 24 out of 36 found this review helpful
I don't listen to radio. Really never do. One night I was at this bar and this song came on and it caught my ear and I listened to it all the way through and the thing that popped into my head was "Wow that's a damn good pop song, who is that?" I've been meaning to download this song. The bottom line is this, this song is great as far as modern pop songs go. It has a fantastic electro vibe with a taste of new wave built in. This is not IMO the standard garbage that many of these negative reviews are geared towards. It's easy to hate something when it's popular but you know what some things that are popular are actually not that bad and deserve the credit they get. This is one of them. Great pop song writing. Worth the download.
Letter To The Industry: July 2, 2008 J. Taylor (Mi) 17 out of 34 found this review helpful
Please up your standards. I as a lesbian detest someone like Katy Perry trying to vie the attention of males by talking about kissing chicks, and then saying "good girls" just don't do that type of thing. Well, call me a bad girl cause I say the music is awful, and the lyrics are that of a fifth grader, and at least find someone worth looking at. Can we please move along in the industry?
Kiss Faded To Black July 5, 2008 Michael Kerner (Brooklyn, New York U.S.A.) 15 out of 44 found this review helpful
As a shopper of the new Met Fresh Super Center, I actually hear this song played a lot. For newcomer, Katy Perry, she really doesn't seem to actuall have the appeal to really rock out loud. Her debut single, I Kissed A Girl from her debut album One Of The Boys, is one of the most displeasing songs I've ever heard this past year. She really feels like she is trying to be more like flavor of the moment, and sadly she wrecks her chance at the beginning. I really think she needs to really reinvent herself, if she wants to as good as acts like K.T. Tunstall, or even the tabloid drama Queen, Amy Winehouse. If she really wants to win people over, she'd better stop kissing all the wrong girls. Song: F
You May Now Kiss the...Uh...Girl Who... Uh... Ahhh Never Mind June 18, 2008 Flap Jackson (State Road, NC) 14 out of 29 found this review helpful
This song is so blatantly self-explanatory, it screams controversial. Sure it has all the pop flavorings of a Justin Timberlake track, but lyrically, this song is anything but mainstream. Lyrics: Nope, not reviewing those this time. You form your own opinion. Music: Modern pop that is all the rage that you would hear on any top 40 radio station today. In fact, musically, it's sort of lazy and bland. Of course if you're a mainstream radio zombie, you'll love the music. Overall, this song hides nothing. Take it or leave it, or see it as the camp fest it is. I mean, the moon doesn't have this much cheese! This is certainly a one-hit wonder, in the vein of "I Like Big Butts," and other camp classics. The review title references a Family Guy episode title if you were wondering. Update: Holy freakin' crap! This abomination of a song just hit #1. Say what you want, but this is the true definition of selling your soul to the devil. Simply put, Katy Perry is just trying to ride a wave to become popular and rich, and she'll do anything to get to the top. Congratulations Katy, this is your penthouse. No substance, just pillow fluff. I've gotten over camp, this is just crap. Consider this: this song the 1,000 #1 of the rock era that began with "Rock Around The Clock." Congratulations America, look where we've come in rock & roll. Just one week ago, we had something original on our radios, now we have this mainstream garbage haunting our airwaves. I still contend the music didn't die, it just sleeps underground in the form of Indie Rock.
Sex sells? June 24, 2008 Stefan Crane (KY USA) 14 out of 39 found this review helpful
Sex doesn't sell with this horrible trash. This is nothing more than a lyrical attempt to sell lesbianism AGAIN. Been there, done that!!!!!!! Tila Tequila is a major crowd pleaser on MTV. Can we PLEASE move on as a human race? The songwriting is so horrid, it can't be classified as campy. Camp is fun, this is not. The music/composition is just another cookie cutter piece of trash as well. Even a turd can float, but you can't polish it. I'm ashamed that this single/LP was released, ashamed that the recording industry will dive to whatever depths it takes to bring in a dollar. The vocal is dull and lackluster. Don't bother. Move on. Be silent.
