5 out of 5 stars Haunted Mansion history, from the creators of the ride   July 10, 2008

"Nuptial Doom" is a story narrated by Disney voice actor Kat Cressida, who can be seen in the Haunted Mansion as the Bride in the attic. Cressida tells this compelling story as she heard it time and time again as a child from her father, who worked in marketing with Disneyland and had frequent contact with the folks who developed and created the Haunted Mansion attraction.

"Nuptial Doom," a gothic tale of a lost bride, is a tragic love story that takes place in the bayou near New Orleans near the end of the nineteeth century. This backstory was conceived and considered as the WED Imagineers went about creating the famous Haunted Mansion attraction, and some elements of it remain to this day... such as the sailing ship weather vane that sits atop the old manse.

Including authentic sound effects from the Walt Disney Records sound library, "Nuptial Doom" is certain to captivate you and make your next trip through the Disneyland Haunted Mansion more insightful - and, perhaps, a bit more eerie. Dim the lights, start the tale, and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars The Compelling, Authentic Origin of Disneyland's "Haunted Mansion"   August 29, 2008
Paul D. Cieslewicz (Las Vegas, NV)
This wonderful 20 minute tale of the origin of Disneyland's "Haunted Mansion" is far more engaging and entertaining than the horrific film flop that starred Eddie Murphy. Had the screenwriters based their tale on this exciting story they might've had something that could've rivaled the success of "Pirates of the Caribbean". Instead they dumbed it down and modified it to be a "family" film written around it's already fading star.

What makes this even better is that it is read by Kat Cressida, who's voice is already very familiar to any fan of the "Haunted Mansion" as the voice of the Black Widow Bride ("I do...I did!") during the ride. Her excellent voice work makes this story tragically touching, yet perfectly eerie for anyone looking for a dark tale to send shivers down their spine during a dark and stormy night. This would be a perfect background track to create a haunting atmosphere for any Halloween gathering. Just see how many curious people want to know what it is, and how many memories of the classic Disney ride can be brought about by this "official" tale.

While some elements of the ride are not explained in the story (anyone for a sequel featuring the origin of Madame Leota or a tale of the graveyard ghosts and the trembling caretaker?), this captivating tale will thoroughly entertain anyone who has been on the ride and wondered about the wandering light in the attic or about who it is that hangs in the foyer. Enjoy! And don't forget your death certificate!
