5 out of 5 stars Inspirational Song from a GREAT Voice   May 25, 2008

David Cook .. winner of 2008 American Idol. I wrote CHEESY before I read the story from the songwriter behind the song here: blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=54139274&blogID=423067994

The song is INSPIRATIONAL, and this is the first release from a powerhouse of a voice. Amazon needs to re-add his first solo album, "Analog Heart" here for sale again (it was pulled midway through the Idol competition, apparently the powers that be at Idol thought it was disadvantageous for Cook to have an album for sale; even though they permitted other finalists' albums for sale here {and continue to do so}). We will hear much, much more from this young man. What a powerful versatile, edgy voice!

1 out of 5 stars People actually LISTEN to this?   May 26, 2008

Is this a joke everyone in the world is in on except me? Ok, he has a reasonably good voice, hence the one star. That's about it. His guitar playing is marginal at best, and he's certainly not doing anything even remotely original. Who knows maybe in a decade or so after the pop hooks of American Idol have been removed from his spine he may become a good singer. In the mean time he'll continue to perpetuate yet more pop drivel and aural wallpaper disguised as rock. I see lots of live music living in the NY Metro area, and David Cook is an OK bar band singer of which there are thousands.

5 out of 5 stars Swap David C. for David A. then think of the song!   May 28, 2008

I didn't watch this season of AI. I've only watched Seasons 3 and 5. However, I walked into the room while someone I room with had it on. David C. was singing Eleanor Rigby. Before I started to listen, I made fun of his hair. Then he got to the verse and Whoa. He has an awesome voice. If he can sing Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, and Andrew Lloyd Webber songs and make them sound great, then he can sing anything. After that night, I kept my eye on him and bought the songs I liked, including Billie Jean, which was the cover Chris Cornell did, and IMO David C. did better! Just think of how "This is the Time of My Life" would have sounded with David A. singing it. I rest my case!!!

David Cook, American Idol, has an absolutely fantastic voice. He is destined to go far. He makes any song sound great.

Even when he is singing about "magic rainbows", David Cook can sell any song. He has beautiful tone and range, and even if this coronation song is not representative of his style and ability (and it's not), he still manages to invest enough of himslef in it that the song simply WORKS.
Hopefully RCA will let him have creative freedom with his album, and do the fans a favor by re-releasing Analog Heart, his indie record from 2006.
