Product Description
ATCs are all the rage!Making artist trading cards (ATCs) is a hugely popular activity for artists. Originally a paper/collage-based art form, ATCs have caught on with crafters working in a range of mediums and are now just as popular among fabric and mixed-media artists. ATCs are mini art works, the size of a playing card, often created as limited editions. The back of each card contains the artist's name and contact information. The idea behind the cards is to make them and then give, trade, or share them with others. This collection inspires with 1,000 original cards in a beautiful pageant of color, composition, and creative use of materials. The book also includes a special section devoted to explaining what ATCs are, how to get started, and includes some exciting technique information. Curated by Patricia Bolton, founder and editor-in-chief of two of the most exciting creative magazines on the newsstands, the book meets the Quarry Books mission of offering artistic and challenging new ideas to traditional paper artists, scrapbookers, mixed-media artists, and quilters by merging paper, fabric, and surface embellishment through experimentation and discovery.

Not quite what I expected April 27, 2007 latteberry (Seattle, WA USA) 47 out of 48 found this review helpful
If you are into fabric/textile arts, more than ATC's, this book is for you. The overwhelming majority of these trading "cards" were made with a sewing machine in some way. Most are fabric or textile trading cards, and I expected a much broader definition of 'mixed-media' from the title and description. The cards are lovely, and I don't mean to fault any of the artist contributors. I just thought that since there are so few books on ATC's out there it seemed odd that this highly anticipated book would be so focused on textile arts.
Inspirational March 9, 2007 J. Taliaferro 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
This book is a great resource for any teacher, parent, club leader. The directions are clear and understandable. Many of the products necessary for any project is readily available and many of us use them in the home. The only thing that confused me was the paper pallette. I now know what it is, frankly any containers for small amounts of paint is just as good. There is also a list of websites for those new to the trading game. The price on Amazon is worth the buy!
ATC's May 25, 2007 Leonie Partridge (Christchurch, New Zealand) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I thought this book was just OK as far as a resource for ATCs is concerned. There were alot of similar contributions from the same artists and was more of a gallery book than a helpful resource and ideas book. If looking for a book on different ATC ideas, I would not recommend buying this book.
A Gem of a Book April 6, 2007 Book Wench (Rhode Island) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
When I entered the ATC challenge in Quilting Arts Magazine a couple of years ago, I never imagined my tiny piece of fiber art would end up in a gorgeous book like this. This is a wonderful book for art quilters, scrapbookers, or anyone interested in mixed media- it's pure inspiration on every page. It should be required reading for art teachers; ATCs are great for trying out new techniques and materials, and can be made on even the tightest budget.
Excellent source of inspiration and a good way to encourage budding artists June 10, 2007 K. Corn (Indianapolis,, IN United States) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Artist trading cards have many advantages. They are relatively small and allow viewers to see artwork in a mini size. As such, they are portable and easily carried, displayed and traded. My kids were fascinated by the idea (they were already into trading cards of various sorts) and this served as a springboard for their own artistic creations. It did the same for me.
