Ode to Ode January 30, 2004 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Ode is not your typical mag.! It enables those who read it a real insight into global affairs in a way that I have never seen before. Ode is made up of different views from around the world. Topics have included micro loans, to fair trade. I see that Amazon doesn't have much information about Ode so check out their website to see if its for you (www.odemagazine.com ). I think it is a great gift for students because it is interesting as well as educational. I could go on and on about the joys of Ode! Subscribe now and you will be as thrilled as I am!
global reach, local appeal July 6, 2005 L. Hayes (New York, NY USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
(excerpt from Ode's Mission Statement) "...an independent international journal, without strings to the world of commerce and power...stories about the people and ideas that are making a difference.... We offer our readers the chance to link up with an international network of inspiration and cooperation, strengthening the forces devoted to respect, justice and equality...we hope to invite them to make their own contribution to a more just and sustainable world." I can't remember how or when I stumbled across Ode magazine...probably browsing in a NYC newsstand on my lunch hour, while stalling on getting back to my office in corporate America. I don't have anything against American capitalism or Wall Street, per se (after all, it's how I pay my mortgage and feed my dogs)...I'm just conscious of the fact that my values and aspirations are slightly askew of those of my typical corporate counterpart. Money doesn't trump the environment and greed is not good in my world. One can only hope that this would become the norm in the future (but I'm not holding my breath). Bbbrrrrrringgg!!!! (that's my wake-up call, in case you missed it) I bought a single issue of Ode well over a year ago, read it cover to cover on the way home from work, and called in my subscription the next morning. I've been a more-than-satisfied customer ever since. In fact, I've been toying with the idea of joining their staff just so I could be a part of the experience! Ode's articles give me insight into world culture (not just the goings-on in Hollywood or New York). This magazine is earth-friendly, with a peaceful "can't we all just get along" vibe that's refreshing. It's not condescending, uber-liberal, or too "hippie" for my taste (although I am a Midwest-born vegetarian living in NYC, with a background in theater, who's now working on Wall Street -- a strange brew, to be sure). Ode is informative, edgy, dramatic and simple. Articles on people who are changing the world, in ways both large and small. Insights from around the globe, not censored or tailored to the current fads and trends in the US. Recently, I've found myself drawn in by the monthly column by Paulo Coehlo, a Brazilian author whose books I love (including "Eleven Minutes" and "The Alchemist," among others)...an incredible writer, with a disarmingly honest style that captures my attention every time. I can't remember ever reading another magazine that holds my attention on every page. Typically, I skim through articles, maybe notice a few interesting advertisements, read a column or two and call it a day -- probably getting a total of 10-12 pages of worthwhile reading material. With Ode, I learn something new each time it arrives in the mail, each article and story more interesting than the next. I'm thrilled to have discovered a substantial, global magazine that is as entertaining as it is informative.
Best New Magazine--filled with good news June 14, 2006 S. D. Weinstock (Arizona, USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I found ODE at my doctor's office. She let me keep the copy, and I read it cover to cover. I am a college professor who believes in the world's potential...and this magazine contains article after article about all the good/ true findings in every field. Far from being intellectual or upper-crust, ODE is just that--an ode or song to celebrate life. Read it and ENJOY!

Finally there is a real magazine to buy, with a real stuff. Magazine is written in a very interesting way, with most interesting topics(going on in a whole world), and most important with a solutions to the issues that are mentioned. It is bringing general goodness to everyone who reads and chance to change the world for better. In my opinion this the best magazine that I know of. Thank you Ode and keep it up
