The eight models who appear on the cover are Carolyn Murphy, Daniela Pestova, Elle Macpherson, Elsa Benitez, Rachel Hunter, Rebecca Romijn, Veronica Varekova and Yamila Diaz-Rahi. In addition to 25 supermodels, this is the ninth consecutive year the issue has featured a figure from the world of sports. The only athlete to grace the pages of this year's issue is tennis superstar Maria Sharapova. This year's issue is the eighth orchestrated by Senior Editor Diane Smith. The annual search for paradisiacal locales took the magazine to eight exotic locations: Harbour Island and Cat Island in the Bahamas, Hollywood, Huahine in French Polyneisa, Las Vegas, Colombia, Palm Springs and Turks & Caicos. In Palm Springs, 2003 cover model Petra Nemcova posed in her first SI shoot since surviving last year's Asian tsunami. Nemcova is also the subject of SI columnist Rick Reilly's back-page story, "Petra Shines On". Veteran SI starlets Anne V and Noemie Lenoir hit the Hollywood hills and the streets of Los Angeles with rookie Yesica Toscanini. SI favorites Ana Beatriz Barros, Fernanda Motta and Mallory Snyder joined first-timer Aline Nakashima in stunning Huahine in French Polynesia. Molly Sims, star of NBC's Las Vegas, posed all around Sin City, including the roulette tables. Colombia's San Pedro de Majagua played host to rookies Brooklyn Decker & Pania Rose and second-year SI model Oluchi Onweagba. SI veterans Bridget Hall, Daniella Sarahyba and Marisa Miller welcomed newcomer Carla Campbell to the white sand beaches of Cat Island in the Bahamas. Body paint artist Joanne Gair has sprayed and brushed swimsuits on some of the world's most beautiful women for SI since 1999. This year her inspiration is 1998 cover model Heidi Klum. Gair, who also photographed the spread, styled Heidi as a glamour girl of old Hollywood in four captivating suits and sexy poses.

Don't let the lack of stars fool you. This issue is great. I'm not sure what people have against half-naked women, but I tend to like them. Maybe it's just me...

Of course these women are perfect, anyone would be with gads of body makeup and the help of a great airbrush artist. This is what makes it a Fantasy, not reality - It's getting OLD, or maybe I am??? I am sorry if I sound old fashioned, but my wife is reality, flaws and all and I would much rather look at her than implants, airbrushed and made up Photos - Honestly, they turn me OFF. Sports are my Thing, but I wish I didn't receive this issue, it should be a special issue for men who need that sort of thing, I do not.

I could not agree more with the reviewer who commented on the lack of black women on this cover. It is really insulting considering that a large portion of the athletes covered in SI are black. I don't care what country she comes from, but there should be at least one black woman on the cover. What about Asian women? There are people out here who find black and Asian women attractive. Six blonde white models and two dark-haired Latinas is not my idea of diversity. SI should be ashamed of themselves. That cover does not reflect the world that we live in. Beautiful women come in all colors.

If you don't like this magazine, then DO NOT BUY IT. It is not your place to impose your puritanistic hypocrisy on the entire population. Being a blind, brain dead zealot is a tough occupation; what kind of unaccredited "Christian" college do you have to attend to work for the "American decency association"?
If you disapprove of drinking then don't buy alcohol, and tell your kids not to drink... you DON'T start a petition to bring back prohibition. The same goes for this magazine. If in your opinion it constitutes pornography, then don't buy it. What business do you have dictating whether other people have access to this magazine? Boycotting stores and protesting like a bitter old man who never dated until he was 40, only gives your rant the credibility of a Hulk Hogan speech before a match. Using "morality" to act out your insecurities is a waste of everyone's time; there are more important social issues out there if you want to get involved. The magazine celebrates the female form and promotes great bathing suits. It's a best seller for a reason, and I highly recommend it.

Agree with the annual SI Swimsuit edition or not, from the perspective of isolated young soldiers, away from home for a year in a lethal and deadly environment and with very little diversion and under strict military supervision and unable to leave their bases, something like the SI Swimsuit edition comes as perfectly 'legal' and much-needed relief for young soldiers. I realized how VALUABLE the issue was preparing my brother's next care package to Iraq. He needed something beautiful to have in his living environment that would brighten things up, boost moral, put some smiles on faces, and not offend anyone. The SI Swimsuit issue is a HUGE moral booster. Everyone in his living area has a page or two so that the whole issue is on display. Most importantly, it complies with command guidelines for good taste decorations in troops' living quarters so these don't have to be taken down. A sorely needed moral booster in an environment surrounded by death and military regulation 24-7.
SI, on behalf of the fighting men, and some women, of America.... your moral boosters are among the best and most highly valued! Let's do this again next year!
