NOT JUST FOR KIDS! MOST AWESOME LEARNING TOOL! November 13, 2002 Another Reviewer (Wisconsin, United States) 116 out of 121 found this review helpful
This magazine is incredible! Looks reasonably in-depth at one subject every month... Photography and artwork are eye-catching and technologically advanced; headlines are attention-getting--and every little tidbit makes you want to know more! This is the greatest magazine to have available to read any time you have a few minutes to spare--in the car, in the doctor's waiting room, etc. Not just for kids, either! My teenaged boys and I have roughly 40 of these on hand and have yet to find one we did not enjoy... Great stuff!
Count me in as another receiving nasty subscription notices June 30, 2006 Longtime Amazon Shopper (United States) 71 out of 81 found this review helpful
We had a subscription to this magazine and it's a pretty good one for the kids, albeit woefully thin. I found it too expensive for the few pages the magazine has and did not renew it. After ignoring the standard renewal pleas, yesterday I found in my mailbox a letter (with subscription invoice attached, of course) stating that my account was "seriously past due" and that "further action is pending" on my "delinquent" account. For those getting similar notices, I found this number to call: 1-800-825-2821 The lady I spoke with said she cancelled the 'unathorized order'...we shall see if I receive any other notices. It really is a shame that the tactics of the subscription services overshadow the actual product.
one of the best educational mag's I've found June 22, 2004 55 out of 57 found this review helpful
I bought this for my children and was surprised to find my husband and myself reading it as well. Not only did it come in handy for homework, but the old issues have been saved and used in projects, papers, homework and even by the teachers! I have five children, so they have had alot of exposure to diffirent age levels and have always proven usful. Some of the teachers were excited because this subscription was one that they wished that they could get every year as part of their class materials. As an added point, while on vacation, we have spotted the back issues on sale in gift shops for as much as four ninety nine $4.99. These were issues that contained stories about the particular historic event, etc that they thought informative enough to sale. You can't go wrong with this one!!!!!
Absolutely best 1-subject Nonfiction out there! March 31, 2003 Gail Starkweather (San Antonio, Texas) 54 out of 57 found this review helpful
This magazine, packed with photos and other illustrations, piques the interest of a child on the subject hightlighted each month. In-depth articles and tidbits of information give the child (or parent/teacher!) plenty of information for reports, projects, or for the plain joy of learning! After reading the facts, there are fun games at the end using the newly obtained information.
Billing Fraud July 1, 2005 Mr. Hunter 49 out of 75 found this review helpful
The first time heard about "Discover Kids" was today. I received a phony collection notice in the mail from their "Credit Department", at PO Box 54207 Boulder, CO 80322-4207. QUOTE: "Dear Subscriber: This is your final chance to settle your Seriously Past Due account directly with Kids Discover. We have made repeated attempts during the the past several months to contact you and resolve this matter satisfactorily. Our records indicate that you placed an order but did not pay for it. Unless your payment is received by the due date on the enclosed invoice, policy dictates that your delinquent account be automatically reffered to a National Collection Agency. You can easily avoid this referral action by paying the enclosed invoice. Quick payment will immediately reinstate your child's subscription to KIDS DISCOVER and your account will be cleared and settled. Please act now! Sincerely, J.Miller Credit Manager" Actually attached to the letter was a "Subscription Invoice" for an order of 12 issues for $19.95 due on 07/27/05. Not past-due mind you, and not for magazines that have been delivered either! Basically, when you remove the invoice section from the letter, its just an invoice asking you to send in money for a first subscription to Kids Discover. The scary letter is apparently the way they like to do advertising, when you don't respond to normal methods. Also the invoice is "to the parents of (OUR SON'S NAME WAS HERE)". He's four years old. Who do they honestly think signed up for these supposed unpaid future issues, and who will they turn into collections, "The parents of XXX"? Please don't fall for this scam, and don't buy this magazine! I'm a very busy guy, but I just couldn't let this scam lie. I hope you appreciated my heads-up review of Kids Discover.
