Best General sewing magazine April 27, 2008 kavanava 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Covers a wide variety of sewing projects and techniques. I subcribed to this magazine for many years, but stopped because sadly I hardly have time to sew anymore and prefer to crochet because I can take it with me. Aimed at the homesewer interested in honing skills or looking for a fun project. This is a helpful publication for beginners but also has aricles and projects to suit more advanced sewers. Also covers latest/useful products. There is a good reason this magazine has been a favorite of sewers for years.
Packed with info December 6, 2006 Dawn Schanz 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
If I had known how much I would enjoy this magazine, I would have subscribed years ago! Every issue is jam packed with practical sewing information. It teaches you techniques that you can apply to all different kinds of sewing. There are also directions for different projects each month and special offers for discounts on patterns. Learning the how's and why's of how things work and techniques that have so many different applications will help you become a more savvy seamstress. You'll be taking off on your own and customizing things to fit what you want before you know it.
sharpen your skills September 18, 2004 Andrea Pollack (VA, United States) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
A great feature of this magazine is that each issue highlights a specific sewing skill (fitting pants properly, making buttonholes well, etc.) and provides in-depth instruction with illustrations and photos to help you build your skills. I'm a big fan of efforts to keep this art and trade going over the generations. When Mom's not available to guide me by phone, the magazine can fill in for her.
Only Subscription I Keep Renewing December 19, 2002 41 out of 41 found this review helpful
If you sew anything, quilts, clothing, crafts, embroidery, you will enjoy this publication. I have had a subscription for nearly six years, ever since I began sewing clothes for my family and friends. Sew News is packed with great ideas, tips, and tidbits on various subjects (i.e notched collars, working with silk, the history of scissors). Online resources and mailorder sources are also included with each issue. Sometimes, free patterns are offered as well. The only thing which bothered me this year was when they changed the binding from a thicker, substantial binding to the thinner, stapled type. It annoyed me because I save these in my sewing library for later reference and sometimes they can get damaged a little in the mail. However, I strongly recommend applying for a subscription because these mags are tough to find in stores and, of course, the sub rate is better.
