Magazine name change July 18, 2008 WW 2 student (North Carolina) The name of the magazine should be changed to the 1911 Handgun Review. A few good test but just too too much about the 1911 and its varieties.
Very Good Resource April 4, 2007 BlueBerry (Salt Lake City) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its more of a newsletter than a magazine - straight forward, black and white graphics, about 30 pages long and very well written. The only resource I've seen so far that doesn't love every gun it reviews like the more common gun magazines do. Probably something to do with the fact that its not beholden to advertisers. They review handguns, rifles, carbines, and just about anything else including some shooting equipment. Their reviews might seem harsh to some, but the high standards of most gun manufacturers deserves for great guns to be separated from firearms that are merely very good. I don't think they do regular features on the best used guns like Consumer Reports reviews used cars for potential problems and this would be very useful if they did. Gun Tests is essential reading material for anyone who is interested in becoming a more enlightened firearms consumer.

Very thin but if you puchase one gun it could save you alot. Probably wont resubscribe.
Mag is just ok. August 24, 2006 valentsgriff (Long Island, NY) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After 5 years I no longer subscribe. The handgun accuracy is often tested offhand at 15 yards. Test should be at least 25 yds or better yet 50 yds for 1911 style pistols (using a Ransom rest). The firearms tested are often esoteric cowboy guns or 25 ounce .32 or .380 pistols that nobody is interested in. They test guns using too few ammo types and the tests often sound as though they didn't want to spend any money, for eg. testing only 2 or 3 makes of deer rifles as opposed to 5-10 of a given type. Still WAY better that G & A or American Rifleman for objectivity.
Like Consumer Reports for shooters August 20, 2005 Martin Vick (South Dakota) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
No ads, at least the bias is non-commercial. I have subscribed for years, and it really cuts through the hype of the usual "buy two of these" reviews in the standard gun press.
