A Crafter's Dream Mag November 9, 2001 Debbie (Matador, TEXAS) 45 out of 45 found this review helpful
This magazine, like others has a wide variety of crafts for every level of crafter. BUT.... this magazine has always provided the reader with a classier variety to choose from. You won't find pipe cleaner dolls here. What you will find is a selection of beautiful patterns, great reader comments, easy to read grafts and charts, and most important something in every issue for the serious crafter. Do you need to know how to market your crafts? They will tell you. Do you want to learn a new craft? This magazine teaches you as though there were an instructor sitting next to you walking you thru each and every step. I have been a subscriber to this magazine for awhile now and they are always my first choice when I want to start something new.
Best Overall Crafts magazine December 1, 2002 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
This magazine has been completely redesigned since I last subscribed and it looks great. The projects range from painting, quilting, sewing, and scrapbooking to jewelry making, home decor, soaps and candles. The magazine includes a complete list of what you need to make the project plus step-by-step instructions and great photographs. I like to dabble with lots of different crafts and this magazine is just what I need.
Fun! August 8, 2004 Kate Katzban Beren (Madison, WI USA) 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
I work in a scrapbooking store and this is one of our favorite magazines. As some people have said, the projects in it are fairly easy to complete because the magazine gives excellent instructions and often additional tips or patterns on it's web site. You don't need to be a subscriber to access their web site so take a look at some of their projects first if you'd like to see what it's all about. http://www.papercraftsmag.com/projects/ One of the reviews complained about the level of difficulty about the projects, however, if you're an experienced crafter you'll have no trouble adapting them to your own style. What they give you is a good understanding of the techniques and you can take it on your own from there. Everything I have made from this magazine has turned out beautiful and they make excellent gifts!
From "Crafts" to "Paper Crafts" ... I LIKE it! March 8, 2005 kre8iv1 (Flemington, NJ) 18 out of 21 found this review helpful
Reading all the other reviews I felt I needed to contribute. I am a rubber stamper since the 1980's. I do not do scrapbooking, however I have become well-read on this craft. For the naysayers of the group: I think if I wasn't expecting the layout of this magazine because the magazine I used to subscribe to "became" this one, I would have agreed with you ... that same thing happened to me with "Stamp & Scrap Arts" magazine (This one disappointed me with THEIR changeover). However, I DO subscribe to Somerset Studio, Stampers Sampler, Rubberstampmadness, Stamp & Scrap Arts (which I will NOT be renewing), Paper Crafts (and I WISH they would offer a subscription to their sister-publication "STAMP IT!" magazine), plus I am a Stampin' Up! independent demonstrator and I get their magazine. I truly disagree with the "bashers". I look forward to Paper Crafts magazine because it is all about QUICK and attractive. I agree there is a line between "cutesy" and "artistic", but when I am in a rush I want to be able to create a card in 10 minutes vs. 10 days. SOMERSET STUDIO is a BEAUTIFUL publication, and I read it to incorporate more intense techniques into quicker projects. PAPER CRAFTS shows me sharp, innovative, and fun projects that don't take too long to do. I disagree that someone said it is along a "kindergarten level". Before you can fly, you must crawl and then walk. I would like to point out that PAPER CRAFTS is definitely a "jumping off" point, and that paper crafters should invest in at least 2 other magazine subscriptions ... SOMERSET STUDIOS, RUBBERSTAMPMADNESS, etc. Don't just rely on one. Happy crafting! [NOTE 5/29/2008 : I have noticed that PAPER CRAFTS have shifted their focus AWAY from rubber stamping to utilizing a LOT of stickers, pre-printed papers, etc. So, I am revising my review to say this - P.C. you have shifted your focus, and I'm not thrilled with your new focus. Therefore I will NOT renew my subscription. Bring back the art of RUBBER STAMPING instead of just gathering pre-made items and throwing them onto a card and calling them "hand made".]
my favorite craft magazine! November 26, 2002 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
With the exception of Crafts (put out by the folks who do Cook's Illustrated), which went under, I think, this is the best all around high-quality craft magazine I've found. There is a lot of variety (flower making, rug hooking, knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, quilting, decoupage, soap making, beading) and the projects are uniformly well thought out, clearly explained (with diagrams and a pull-out pattern section), and well photographed. They have a regular column for kids as well as book reviews and a great idea: a project that carries over from month to month. Not sure if they do this every year or not, but this year they've been featuring a quilt, with one square detailed each month. A great idea of how to feature a large project without overwhelming a single issue.
